I remember a few short years ago when AHO talked up Lloyd's future dividend as intending to be two thirds of profits and the price touched 92p. This was at the height of massive ppi payments and also coincided with triggering a massive share bonus for himself which was directly linked to the price. He's been pretty quiet since then - presumably there's no new trigger point in the offing.

It should also be pointed out that 12 months ago the European Commission stated that their intention for the 2021 - 2024 budget was that no member should continue to receive a rebate. In the event that the temporary political masters in the HoC overturn Brexit, this is the likely consequence of staying in the EU - a sizeable increase in contribution which aligns quite well with the 2016 Brexit figure.

Yes, it all depends on from where the charge is measured. Another opinion would day it has charged backwards 10% in the last 9 years. And that reverse in price is factual.

I suggest time and patience is needed here. The real way of showing Parliament what we think of so many politicians is to express our feelings at the next GE. If the British people take just a little time to review the events following the referendum and the way so many politicians have completely ignored their electorates who gave them their seats, then the next GE will become the perfect opportunity to confine these individuals to history.

Farage was also the only politician who has ever given the electorate a voice over Europe. We've been led down an ever more intricate path by career politicians who have one eye on honours for mediocrity and the other eye on the ever growing EU gravy train. Out of interest about 25 serving politicians are either a Knight or a Dame. If this was repeated across the country we'd have around 2.5 million of this common species.

Quite staggering that the arrogance of the Labour party determines that they should about face and intentionally ignore the will of a democratic process where the majority voted to leave the European Union.
No matter how much we criticise May, Corbyn and the Labour party have decided to treat the people of the United Kingdom as ignorant, brainless and stupid.

This was the party that supported article 50 and leaving the customs union and single market. It said so in their manifesto. As from yesterday, the party supports the customs union and single market. And their leader is the same Mr J Corbyn.

Any wonder people can't stand politicians, particularly since we pay their wages, pensions and expenses. A lot of people will have very long memories come the next election.

Isn't it interesting that the EU said in the event of a no deal Brexit they wouldn't put up a hard border. So in effect the problem doesn't even exist.

What is so significant about these polls and elections is that the EU won't change course from their determination for more centralisation and integration. Their blind belief in political control of all member states in Europe is opposed by a rapidly growing portion of the population and yet they continue their course, fuelled by their own arrogance and the egos of professional politicians.

Ordinary people are disgusted that a centralised minority should try to foist their views on people who have never heard of them nor could recognise or name them. These people have generally had pretty straightforward attitudes towards politics and vote as much for the people they recognise as the views they espouse. Being told by career politicians they don't recognise and have never voted for is unpalatable and this feeling is growing and growing throughout Europe.

When we were members of a trading block the arrangement was simple and straightforward. But when the momentum changed towards centralisation of power and a Federal Superstate, ordinary people started to rebel and show that their views were not being represented.

The EU's direction and ambitions have lead to the situation we face today, both in the UK and a growing number of member European countries. People are not racist or far right - they are just proud of their country and their heritage. They get on with other races and religions as well as any other countries around the world. But the EU are making decisions which affect all these countries and their people and they don't take into account that we are all different and one solution can have negative impacts over which we have no control. If the EU would accept that they carry a great responsibility for the disatisfaction felt in many European countries, we might make progress. But when I think about it, I believe it's a forlorn hope.

It seems those that shout the loudest believe they should be heard the most. Ignore those that had voted to leave in the 2016 referendum, they didn't have the facts or know the consequences of leaving the EU.
I would suggest the majority of those that voted to leave had already made their minds up about the EU before a referendum was ever put in place. They will be just as convinced today when they've read and heard all of the plans for further integration and creation of centralised political and fiscal union. I smile at the number of people waving the EU flag in London today and wonder why they so wish to be the puppets of the non elected euro elite and are ashamed to wave the flag of the country in which they live.

I've watched the humiliation that the EU have foisted on countries such as Greece and Italy and the disdain they show to the ruined lives of a generation of people in these countries. The same EU is also happy to try and humiliate the UK. They have their red lines but they try to emphasise our red lines as being the issue. I have no love for May as she was the wrong person to keep sending back to the EU and has failed spectacularly to gather sufficient support for her proposals. Hopefully she will depart quickly and a convincing and committed leader will emerge.

In the meantime I'm being entertained by the wee Scottie lass preaching in London. The only reason she's after a second referendum is that it would pave way for a second independence referendum. Politics as usual and politicians playing politics. Hopefully, at the next GE, the public will remember and remove a lot of them.

The Lloyd's price for the last 3 years has been inextricably linked to Brexit. The day after the referendum the price dropped 23%. Whether we like it or not the price has been in limbo until very recently when the no deal option was voted out.

The other factor has been ppi and the ever increasing mountain of money that has been set aside. Now the finishing line is in sight and coupled with the removal of the no deal option, the price is beginning to respond.

Talking purely about Lloyd's would have yielded a very empty board as events outside were continually driving down the suppressed share price.

I don't believe our UK politicians have set us up with regards to Brexit, as they never imagined the outcome that was delivered by the electorate in 2016. But their smugness and arrogance has certainly crystallised in unwavering attempts to reverse the decision and keep us in the EU. Furthermore, the great and the corrupt within the EU have done everything they can do to make the process of leaving as unpalatable as possible.
It's hardly worth going over past events, but we should never have agreed the divorce details before the trading arrangements were set out and, more obviously, TM made an appalling mistake in not setting up initially a cross party committee to agree a structure for our leaving the Union. It wouldn't have mattered if Labour had subsequently walked away as they would at least have been given the opportunity to represent their views and participate in the Leave process.
TM has had cloth ears from the beginning and has never listened. She definitely needs to step down and be replaced with a fresh pair of hands who can stand up to the EU and be respected by our own Parliament. Definitely not Davis or Johnson, heaven help us.

Longtimeinvestor, it's a curiosity why age should be perceived a fault or hindrance to logic. It's also the elderly through their committment and hard work that have given the young the country and freedoms they enjoy today. Millions still carry the scars.

We could have regulated it better, I agree. But the rate of growth of our population outstrips Germany and France and most of the increase has occurred in England. Population density is the highest in Europe for a major country and people have been aware of this. They've seen and felt the visible consequences and made their judgements.
