Careful Geordie1, if you whisper Brexit your post will be removed post haste!!

Took a day trip to Glasgow a week ago with my brother, partly to see the Spitfire at Kelvingrove Museum. Chatted with lots of Scots during the day and without exception, they were all friendly and talkative. Surprised by the sheer number of on shore wind turbines and the damage to the peatland must be enormous. I presume someone will have made the calculation somewhere but in terms of ruination of landscape, nothing comes close. Hard to see how an accurate count of bird deaths can be made as predators and scavengers would quickly take the remains before a census could be completed. The only other issue I have is that wind power is very inconsistent and back up generation will always be needed, effectively adding huge costs on consumer bills.

Great bounce on lloyds share price. Goes to show how suppressed the price has been and completely down to vacuous politicians on both sides of the Channel. A total lack of respect for business and not understanding that their jobs and perks depend entirely on business. A GE will allow the people to kick some backsides very hard and remove a goodly number from office. Particularly the chameleon politicians like Umunna and Allen.

Nothing yet on August ppi payments but likely to be a big one. I doubt if Lloyds as yet have an accurate idea on the final bill as it will take some time to go through the August rush of claims.

Saw that about nuclear fusion. That's a big committment and could yield a huge amount of safe power.

The lloyds share price tends to move according to whether a hard Brexit is less or more likely. If that isn't a price related topic, I don't know what is.

Politicians are treating the public as idiots and they will bear the ramifications. There isn't much a law abiding citizen can do when Parliament has consistently frustrated the referendum result and the language and attitude of our servants has been a disgrace. The standard of behaviour in the chamber hasn't been helped by the egotistical and self serving performance of the speaker. A huge swathe of people will be patiently waiting for a GE and they will get their own back before long.

Lloyds share holders have had to suffer for a long time and I just hope they will be rewarded before too long.

The size of a car engine doesn't really indicate how clean or dirty it is. Modern day diesels are exceptionally clean and have very low CO2 emissions. With regards to Australia stopping exporting coal to China, the very same argument could apply to Norway who are, I believe, the world's 7th largest oil and gas exporter. They enjoy revelling in their so called green economy but in reality their sovereign wealth fund has been built on exported pollution.

I was in a transport cafe the other day and one of the customers asked to pay using chip and pin for a £4.00 meal. The owner of the cafe had a tablet already set up for this and the driver duly presented his debit card. It made me think how some establishments won't accept cash and how long will it be before the window cleaners and milk men have to conduct their transactions in this fashion. Will this make fraud and stolen debit card details more of a problem to combat. Many people already keep their cards in a metal wallet and presumably the banks will encourage more people to follow this trend.

Verhofstadt, who needs no introduction, says that a European empire is the only way to defend Britain's way of life in the 21st century. In addition, the world order of tomorrow is a world order based on empires. Furthermore, to strengthen Europe it is vital we build a European army. So there we have it, a Federalist Europe and a European army. Plus, say goodbye to the UK's rebate and their veto and prepare for common business taxation to be determined by Brussels and applied to all member states. If you don't like it hard luck, because the vetos have been withdrawn.

So this is what remaining will look like, but the Lib Undems and Labour are quite happy to revoke article 50 and ignore the largest democratic vote in this country's history. Isn't it interesting how the populations of member countries of the old Empire far outnumber the populations of EU countries. These used to be our trading partners and could well be so again, as well as opening opportunities to many other aligned countries that have trading links already.

The hidden agendas within Brussels are becoming visible and fortunately, there are people who are aware and fighting their corner to uncover these and other agendas. Mainstream parties who seek to revoke article 50 are playing with fire and effectively saying to Brexit supporters that their views will be ignored. So there we have it, clear as crystal and how arrogant that a Democratic party is building it's campaign on revoking a mandate decided by the majority of it's people.

The consequence of ppi's effect on the share price isn't the issue it once was. Pretty much the total cost is well known now and the underlying unknown that keeps the share price low is what sort of Brexit this country will get. The share price has rebounded in the last couple of days as no deal has seemingly been removed from the table.

On top of all this is the Labour raid on shares in FTSE companies to be distributed to all employees. A freebie that all those who like handouts will quickly grasp.
There will always be an appeal to Labour policies because they promise to target the rich to give to the poor. It's an attractive headline offering rewards for nothing. Corbyn, living in another age in another country has not worked out that his policies don't work, ignoring that talented entrepreneurs will just move away and live in a country that appreciates their aptitude. The world has become a small place and there's no need to suffer the stupidities of individuals like Corbyn.

At least we won't have to listen to the children in the kindergarten debating chamber for 6 weeks.

Allowing for the suspension of share buy backs and the £600 million saved, the extra amount that lloyds will need to set aside for the FINAL ppi provision may be in the order of £700 million.

On the basis of Lloyds' latest statement regarding ppi, it suggests that collectively UK banks received around 6 million compensation claims in August. This must be one of the largest mass exercises of fraud perpetuated against Banks. We are effectively saying that one in four households made a claim in August.

Lloyds updated funding allowed for 190,000 complaints a week in August, covered by the £650 million set aside in the first half of the year. If we take the high figure of 800,000 per week, less the 190,000 previously covered, then lloyds received an unexpected 2.6 million claims in August, of which, one assumes from earlier figures, that 90% are bogus. That means 260 thousand additional upheld claims at say £2,500 per claim. A final total of £650 million.

The only fact I don't have is how much it costs to process each of the claims. If you allow £200 per claim then this adds a further £520 million bringing the new provision total to £1170 million.

The most appalling fact that stands out amongst all these figures is that bogus claims are costing the bank as much as upheld claims and there must be some truly reprehensible claims companies out there that no one is doing anything about.

I find it rather sad that the rhetoric on here regarding Brexit has become so charged, to the extent that character and personality traits now separate pro from remain. It isn't any wonder that the issue has become so toxic and that families have become divided. We all have our beliefs, but trying to score points on how "human" one supporter to another is takes the argument to extremes.

Bruce, would you care to enlighten us about the scale of the secret commission and what it applies to?

I'm not confident of lloyds avoiding another ppi hit. So far this year they have underestimated their own level of compensation, hence the extra two amounts they added to their rapidly diminishing claim fund. They have a long history of not being able to assess their ongoing liability. My own fear is that another larger provision will be needed and the delay in reporting is because of the sheer number of applications received and initially trying to see what proportion are bogus and fraudulent. Judging by the Clydedale and RBS provisions it isn't going to be small.

Adewins, I can't answer you, unfortunately. But lloyds added a further £550 million at the end of July knowing the level of claims they were receiving at that time. Therefore, any additional amount is for the month of August over and above the level they had been receiving towards the end of July. They are not giving us any clues yet.

Assuming 90% of claims submitted to Lloyds have been fraudulent during the last couple of months, an additional £2 Billion would compensate an additional 800,000 to 1,000,000 upheld claims. Put another way, the final month of August has seen approaching 10,000,000 claims submitted. I don't believe that figure is remotely possible.

I meant no paper or official source had referred to Lloyds making additional provision for ppi.
