They have completely miscalculated how much the whole affair would cost them and frequent statements in the last three years that no more provision would be needed has finally taught them to never say never.

I run a British made car and It's admired wherever I go. It was the price off a new Ford Focus but is infinitely superior and handles a dream. It has a 3 litre engine and for the past 7000 miles has returned over 46 miles per gallon. On a motorway it gets 56 miles to the gallon. I have heated seats with all electric adjustment and beautiful leather upholstery. My service plan costs me £200 per year and I get 30,000 miles from my tyres.
The part of the car that's not British are the owners - they're Indian, but they've shown what can be done where others failed.

Virtually within every home are copious amounts of products made from oil and we happily use them or wear them. We also consume them since many fertilisers are oil based and put them on our lips as lipstick or lip balm. Just about everyone is wearing clothes made from oil and we talk into phones that have an oil content. Many of the carpets we walk upon are oil based.

The single biggest fact never talked about that has the greatest bearing is population growth. A world population of 1 billion in 1800 became 4 billion just after the second world war and is around 7.5 billion today. By 2100 it is projected to grow to between 11 and 13 billion. A thirteen fold increase in 3 centuries. No one politician every comments on this fact and yet It's staring us in the face. Because It's perceived as a vote loser It's not discussed.

The focus today is getting us all into electric cars in the belief that they are completely green. Yet the moment the electric car is manufactured, it has produced between 20% and 70% more carbon dioxide than a conventional car. Charging the car in many countries consumes electricity produced by fossil fuels. Take a look at how much coal Germany mines or China which has the biggest uptake of electric cars. Around the world in 62 countries over 1600 new coal fired power stations are planned.

In the meantime, governments continue to demonise diesel cars which produce less carbon dioxide and are at least 20% more economical than petrol engines. No wonder Jaguar are halting production. Bosch in Germany have refined car diesel engines, involving very little and few mechical changes that produce less than half the nitrous dioxide of petrol engines. So overall a far better solution than a petrol engine but no politician is remotely interested.

As usual the electorate are often fed tripe and is it any wonder we have so little faith in politicians.

I've always bought British where I can, although I've often been derided for it. I've had a Maestro and several Montegos and often been the butt of many jokes. I have two original minis but no one laughs at them now and drive an XF daily which cost the same as a new Focus. The most beautiful car I've ever had, and not one issue in three years. I go out of my way to buy British food and never buy French or German wine although I do enjoy wine from Commonwealth countries.
Having said all that I do enjoy visiting France - It's a beautiful country - and if ordinary people and business men could make the rules, we'd all get on fine. Sadly, there's a subspecies called politicians who create the mess and are wholly self serving.

PPI compensation payments are about matching the heights of 4 years ago. I think car sales have been affected by the complete mess over pollution and which cars should be penalised as well as contradiction and ignorance over the supposed greenness of electric vehicles.

The same question could be asked of any number of us.

There's so much tripe on here I thought it would be nice to remember someone who most times showed humour and steel in equal resolve against some of the barbarians that inhabit this site. Her wine and food entries were always a good read and I rarely minded when she stood up to some of the brickbats that were thrown at her. I wish her posts were back on here rather than some that dominate this site.

If the political elite in the UK and in Brussels continue to thwart what the majority of the voting electorate voted for, then the outcome of the next GE will see both UK mainstream parties decimated as voters in their droves turn to UKIP once again. They will probably become the largest party by percentage although not seats and no one party will be able to form a coalition unless the Tories can agree an understanding with UKIP.

The main political parties would do well to revisit what happened a few short years ago during the European elections. If the Conservatives don't deliver Brexit and Labour seek to have a second referendum in the hope of reversing the original result, a huge proportion of the electorate will show their wrath and give their support to a party who once before shocked the political elite.

Politicians across the divide would do well to remember that the electorate voted them in and just as easily can vote them out. They are there to carry out the will of the people and their salaries and expenses are paid by the people. In addition, when the EU seek to interfere and suggest that a second referendum should be offered, it's my opinion that the Government should give them an ultimatum regarding their own behaviour and warn them that any interference will result in the UK walking away on WTO terms and withholding ALL the £39 Billion that they so desperately need.

It's fascinating how this is developing although I am ashamed how the political elite have left much of the business community in the dark whilst this game of poker is played out.
I have little faith in politicians either here or across the channel. When I hear those in the EU suggest the leaving date can be put back if we agree to a second regerendum then i know how much they covet our annual financial contribution. But enough is enough.
More and more countries are rebelling against the EU mantra of four freedoms. They are electing right wing parties and their support is growing. The EU ignores and carries on as before, It's head stuck in the sand. The new Napoleon, Macron, points his finger at the UK and says the Brexit supporters were told lies.
Stand your ground, Theresa. I'm not one of your supporters but let the EU realise that their dream is disintegrating, their federalist superstate will not happen. They have presided over the calamitous ruination of Greece, allowing a generation of It's youth to be discarded. The continuation of free movement is dividing countries and fracturing communities.
If the UK leaves without a deal then the blame is as much on the EU as anyone else. They will also have to tighten their own belts to the point where it hurts. No £39 Billion, that was only going to be paid if we got an agreement on trade.
I'll take the short term pain to be rid of the EU gravy train and all the inflated egos of their appointed elite.

Major countries in Europe including the UK have demonized diesel because so called experts have blamed them for poor air quality. Notwithstanding that diesels consume considerably less crude oil than petrol engines and also produce significantly less CO2. Jaguar/Land rover were very focused on diesel engines and were heavily hit. Not a consequence of Brexit. It is also the case that the major components of air quality are tyre and brake particles. Producing electric vehicles that produce significantly more CO2 in the manufacturing process before they even move off the forecourt is indeed completely glossed over, as is the fact that these vehicles have a kerb weight of around 2250 kilos. Their battery packs weigh more than a classic mini and this will significantly add to the particle pollution coming from tyres and brakes. But the politics of the elite prevail and continue to demonize efficient alternatives already available. Furthermore, advances in technology and production have shown diesel engines can reduce their current NO2 levels by around 80%.

Keep on digging if you wish. It is also the case that a proportion of employees just hang on to bank their profits. Like i've said, i've made my point and you don't like it.

I've made the point I wish to make, longtimeinvestor. You have a different point of view which is fine. Creating additional shares dilutes the share price for those investors who have purchased shares on the open market. If you wish to take issue with that it is your choice.

Hi Freya, nice to hear from you. It's only the truth. It slightly angers me how profligate the company is regarding creating additional shares. It has a bearing on the value of the shares I hold.
