From memory, didn't Moers walk out of a Board meeting that had met and agreed to end V8s at AMG and focus on 4 cylinders in the future. He is most definitely a car guy and appreciates the heart of a performance car is a multi cylinder engine. Interestingly, the very latest black edition AMG GT is producing over 700bhp from the twin turbo V8. That's pretty well a match for the Superleggera V12. I've also read that Audi are considering dropping the R8. A battery version? Or are VW/Audi also looking to drop high polluters as they are volume producers.

Pure guesswork, but with all the road test releases coming this weekend is the market expecting Moers to make a statement? I'm thinking so but could be 180 degrees out.

One of the problems with politicians is that they are ordinary people doing extraordinary jobs and frankly quite out of their depths in times of national emergency which we face now.

I've listened and followed with horror the way this virus has been allowed to cripple our country and been aghast at the people who each and every day are telling us what to do and how to behave. Common sense has totally disappeared, not just from the politicians and scientists but also from the general public because they've become so confused. There has never been a single business leader involved in the decision making process. Each and every so called expert has been on the public purse - never having to worry about their salaries or whether their pensions are safe or even affected. We even have swathes of the public sector being awarded salary increases whilst the private sector crumbles and jobs are cast on the scrap heap.

I sold out 80% of my Lloyds holding some months ago when the PRA urchin Sam Wood thought he could use the private sector banks to do his bidding. The article about clearing 1200 additional sports cars was from the above posted yesterday. They said this number to clear to bring levels down to 850 units would impact through into H1 2021. Taking into account the units that have been moved so far and it seems abnormally high stock levels must have been in place. Find it a bit difficult to believe as you would be talking of around three thousand units at the beginning of 2020. That's 20 per dealership plus ordered customer cars. It reads as though most production through 2019 was going to stock.

Hi tiger100, they are both 1275, although the race one is +20 thou, with all the period bits like 649 race cam, Janspeed full race head, Mangoletsi manifolds, 45 DCOE and Salisbury LSD with straight cuts. They're all period parts from the 70s which in their time were the best of the best. Best of all, no driver aids. You even had to park the windscreen wipers and push the washer button to squirt the screen. If the things broke they generally weren't difficult to fix, unlike today where everything is sealed for life.

Didn't we also have some wonderful ships from days gone by, with real style. I had an aunt and uncle that both worked on the Sylvania before transferring to the Windsor Castle. I also remember the P and O liners plus the France and United States. Southampton was once a ship spotter's dream, as well as Liverpool with ships that sailed to Canada.

I like your allegiance to the British brands. Always liked the TR6, as well as it's predecessors. Why couldn't we keep on making these sports cars ourselves. We had the world markets at one time.
I have a Mk1 Cooper S which I've done a full rebuild on and use when the weather is nice, but now I'm on with a deseamed Cooper S which I used to race and hillclimb and sprint. I'm trying to rebuild her as a replica of the "works" S that Paddy Hopkirk used on the 1968 Circuit of Ireland . Always loved the little cars and their ease of tuning. The beauty is, for cars like these and your TR6, parts are easy to come by, albeit some getting expensive.

I believe apart from completing the first 007 DB5, three quarters of the 25 unit run have been sold. So we can still place an order!

Interesting to listen to the new CFO's briefing, particularly the breakdown in units between DBS/DB11/ Vantage. Vantage volumes were poor, a factor that reinforces the need to stimulate this model as it was supposed to be the bread and butter car for AML. I will be intrigued to see what they do to get the demand back and also the refresh on the DB11.

There is very little comment on here about why the brand has not been selling, with the focus almost entirely on the DBX. That's understandable as non sportscars outsell sports cars at Porsche at around a ratio of 2 to 1. But I find it intriguing that the 911 has remained visually unchanged for almost 60 years and still achieves great volumes. AML tried to market a 911 competitor and failed miserably. They also priced it a quantum jump higher than the outgoing model. That immediately caused a problem for old model Vantage owners who were driving fairly new cars worth £60,000 and yet were faced with finding another £60,000 to upgrade to the latest model.

I do hold a lot of shares but I will be critical where I think there is a need. Palmer was quoted as saying AML build dreams whereas Reichman said the company were not car stylists but design engineers. Those two statements did not marry and it will be interesting to hear and see the new CEO's take on the models he has inherited once his feet are under the table.

Just reading how Ferrari are launching the Roma in Shanghai. Uncanny how the side profile is "borrowed" from the DB10. AML missed a trick there as the Italian styling houses know how to appeal to the heart.

That's a difficult one to answer Theosus as we'll never know how many of the policies would have been current when the virus hit. A great number would have already passed their end dates. I wish I could work that one out.

I agree with you, TLW. It suited the Government to have large amounts of money being parachuted into the economy, effectively into the car sector enabling sales to steam ahead for years.
Many people made fraudulent claims and received compensation, plus those who had wanted ppi but decided to claim anyway. I know people in both categories.
The scale of the fraud, on both sides has been disgraceful and no one taken to account. We now have private Banks under instruction from the urchin at the PRA, and yet in Lloyds case, they are still withholding shareholder dividends from 2018. Odd isn't it, we own the Bank and the Board tell us to get stuffed.

That's where the profits have always been, assuming the products are what the market wants. It gives credence to Mercedes wanting more of AML and the AML client profile.
