Those of us who, with research and a bit of nous, saw the value in this long term have had a generous dividend and now have an appreciating stock.

I agree with you generally but wanted to pick up on this bit. From the reports I'm seeing, and the conversations I've had with some colleagues/friends, the biggest issues (other than the storage issues) aren't with the Pfizer vaccine - but with the Moderna vaccine. This was only given UK approval less than two weeks ago - I wouldn't be surprised if the roll out of this particular vaccine is slowed/halted behind the scenes (DHSC and the government won't want to lose face by announcing it publicly).

The AbC19 test is already CE marked for professional use and can be sold *without* any further approval from MHRA (although permission is required from DHSC until 15 February 2021 under the UK-RTC agreement with the government).

They are correct that at present the AbC19 test is not CE marked for self-test use. That's because CE marking is in relation to compliance with the relevant MDD/MDR requirements, which relate - with the exception of very few devices - to professional use.

If these are used under professional supervision (as has been happening in the LFT test sites or via the surveillance surveys) then there is no requirement for any other 'approval' from MHRA.

It is highly unlikely there will be an RNS on CE marking in respect of production at Nottingham, as UK manufacturers can no longer apply CE marks to medical devices (unless they are also registered with an EU competent authority).

Volz could CE mark for it's production.

Just had my first vaccination (AstraZeneca rather than the expected Pfizer due to supply issues). Very slick operation at the Royal Papworth Hospital (the local vaccination hub).

Population density is arguably a factor in making it *easier* to control pandemics... as individuals are easier to reach and will have easier access to services.

I hate to disabuse you but what a government says and what a government does are often two very different things. The Westminster government has been pursuing a policy of 'herd immunity' (albeit not in the proper sense) for the past year and it is one reason why the UK - and England in particular - has one of the highest death rates in the world (and the government refuses to even admit to that, despite very clear data to that effect).

As far as I am aware, no authoritative source has categorically said that antibodies from prior infection did not offer some level of immunity. What most reliable sources were saying was that it was not possible to know the level and length of any immunity that might be offered.

What the South African variant does is quite firmly put the nail in coffin of any argument for the incorrectly named 'herd immunity' project so beloved of the UK government. Whether that will deter them from continuing to pursue such a reckless and criminally negligent policy has yet to be seen.

Worrying news emerging about the South African variant, where it appears the mutations have allowed the virus to become resistant to antibody neutralisation, meaning that any protection from a prior infection is likely lost.

Testing will be with us for a long time.
