Noggers. You are absolutely correct, WOS have contracts with Rolex.
The value in any 3rd sales distribution business is in the detail of those contracts. Duration, commitments etc. Whilst we have no knowledge of what's contained on those contracts they will be time bound with some sort of reb=newal period. Look at what Patek have been doing in the last year or so with regard to their network. Chop chop....
Who mentioned 100 stores? You should read what's in front of you rather than what you want to see.
I have no idea what the value of WOS SP is. No-one has because no-one knows what Rolex are thinking. The only thing for sure you can say is it isn't worth the same today as it was yesterday!
*for them to do
It makes perfect sense.
The can sell all they make, why wouldn't they want to capture more of the margin and own their own customers data.
They could probably cut their distribution network by 50% and still sell all they make but make another 30% on top for all they sell through their own network.
Im sure they dont want to force out the dealers in smaller cities but London, New York etc etc. Easy for them to od.
The RNS is expected and as expected. Nothing to see here move along.....
The reality is very different.
This is really big news IMO. Now WoS are going to be competing with their own golden goose. I would expect to see some reassuring blah blah in the coming days from WoS but the lid has been lifted. It's clear Rolex are looking at consolidating vertical integration, something that they excel at industrially into retail. I'd imagine their is a lot of shock at WoS HQ this morning.
Awful. The market is on its backside just when Petra needs the cash for increased capex. 50p incoming...
It's the Orient Express and ll the long suffering LTH have been done in.
Wow - now this IS an interesting business move. First move to control their sales channel?
Tin helmets on for Tuesday morning!
Apropos nothing but a small story and you can make of it what you will
I walked into the Regent St store yesterday to enquire about a 70k watch and was told there was no-one to speak to me by a young woman who was doing nothing except apparently trying to avoid speaking to me. Despite the fact she was sitting in front of a display full of watches ,she told me that she didn't have anything to show me and "anyway the wait lists were closed and minimum time I would wait was 5 years", which I know the to be complete rubbish in that I have been told by other retailers of a 6 month wait..
I was in an out in 2 minutes, there was no no attempt of data capture or cross sell into another brand or any form of sales interaction at all really. What caused me to write this post is that his is the second time I have experienced this attitude in a WOS store in London the space of a few months and I have been told of similar experiences by others. For comparison I also visited went two other non WOS boutiques on the same day and received excellent levels of service.
As an investor I suppose you can look on this in 2 ways but I do hold to he maxim that nothing lasts forever. A market cap of a retailer of this size, cannot be sustained with a business approach that involves p***ing off your customer base and in a downturn the shine may come off very quickly. I also wonder what a retailer who creates negative value adds to the mega brands who provide their living. Not much I think and I suspect they already know this!
What can they do? Debt is increasing this year so any buy backs are done on borrowed money, I don't see that happening. Same for divis. If they tried to pull that trick they would get slaughtered again.
Maybe the directors just got caught out as we did. And if they did it would serve to my pain that there's a lack of control.
I'm afraid its tin hats on until the market improves or time passes and the buy outs wash out and the debt comes down. Let's face it this is a 2 year turnaround. I thought it would be 2 quid by Christmas. I still think it'll be that by Christmas, just not sure which year.
The accounts debacle and cost overruns are schoolboy errors for any CEO never mind someone with his experience. Maybe he is just getting too old for it. I say this with respect for the guy and his career and value creation.
He could step up to Chairman and let someone younger and hungrier to run the show. If he got the right name the market would take the news positively. I dont suppose his ego will let him though.
You are right but he can control his forecasts which he has got wrong for 18 months now. If I did that I'd be fired and I suspect if he didn't have a golden share and a bunch of yes men on the board he'd be fired too!
I certainly agree patience is required. I'm going into a dark room and coming out in 18 months from now!
If this were sitting at £2 I'd see the point but at sub £1 the only person to blame here is SMS.
Last year; accounts debacle and the profits warning and cost overrun.
This year 2 profits warnings the second one only one month after the results presentation
All of this points to a lack of a firm hand on the tiller. I actually think that if there were an announcement saying he were stepping back the SP would rise.
He had better show he has grip at the H1 results or this will get slaughtered again.
I do believe that eventually it will come good. If you look at the comparisons with WPP the valuation here simply doesn't make sense however until there is good news this is going to be very painful to be in.

Fair play to Gil. Looks like a cracking deal
ECO as a bidder for these adjoining licences? Hope not!

Great posts thanks.
I wonder why though, Gittins would want to hold back other than creating a buffer for himself in the FY forecast. At some point he needs to get the SP up and thats only going to be through good news so surely the sooner he can do that the better?
I find it quite comical how the SP seems to be tied to a piece of elastic which rebounds at 40p. MMs are trying hard to keep it there. For whoever who knows.
