Thanks for all the comments. Bits of truth in all the posts. Just choose what suits you! I was in Army basic training when Russia invaded Hungary, 1956.Out on the parade ground at 5am with the Colonel surrounded by spotlights. It's War, men,and we're going in to Hungary. Of course nothing happened because a U2 spyplane spotted 500 Russian tanks already there. Now I don't know what you military types think about tanks, but to me they are like Battleships in the 2nd World war-out of usefulness because the first column being hit, precludes any advance for the rest. Going back to the Crimean war, Sir Colin Campbell with just one company of men in the battle of Balaclava, faced with 500 Russian cavalry, told his troops to wait till the horses were 25 yards away ,then kill the horses, not the riders, so 3 columns piled up ,and the rest fled. Yes,I've been to the Crimea, Ukraine, St Petersburg Soltsi, so I've met a few Russians who complain bitterly about their lot, yet love their country.
