As you know I stayed up 7th May al night to watch the Scottish coverage. He was the only one who focussed on others in his team being losing their jobs. What a decent human being. Aye wha's like us indeed.

Thanks for another very interesting post. It has been a quiet week on the bb so not sure if the traders have decided to sit this one out or if they have cashed in thinking their money could be put to better use during a wait which might go on for a bit. Maybe some want all cash and not a mix of cash and shares. I first started trading here towards the end of last year and liked not having to pay a chunk of stamp duty without getting involved in an Aims share or spread betting/cfds. I am going to do a dummy buy on your Ryanair to see if I would be paying Irish stamp duty. I remember when I bought dgo and was scratching my head wondering why I had incurred double stamp duty lol. I could have claimed back the Irish duty but I'd rather not have to go through any rigmaroles as life is complicated enough. Dreadful weather for fetes and galas. Can't remember a worse start to the summer for many a year. I had a discussion about charitable causes on another bb with one guy feeling strongly that certain causes should be funded wholly by the government and not be relying on charitable donations. Not sure if the nhs was one but I commented along the lines that, with all the medical advances theses days, any govt. is going to struggle to fund it fully. Some items in the new children's wing of the new Glasgow hospital definitely being funded by kind external organisations which not necessary to treatment will make their stay and that of their parents brighter. Think there is free wi fi for all so no need to suspend trading if an in patient there. I think the govt would need to raise income tax lol maybe introduce stamp duty for spread betting and cfds and capital gains tax for the former lol that would cheer up my bb stalker lol to give more funds for the nhs to do stuff better than they do. No cure for diabetes yet and type 2 on the rise. The British diet these days? But things like diabetes and underactive thyroid easily treated. Spare a thought for the humorous man of the night of the lang skean dhus. Hope Murray has not lost the momentum after the storms. atb.

My on-line broker doesn't permit it. I asked a guy on these bbs who lived abroad who was with the same broker as me how he managed it and he took a flaky and closed his lse account. I know who you are with denis as you had a little problem with them once and I'll try them as I have had a few problems with my current broker anyway ie holding onto a divi as long as they could before crediting it to my account and having problems early one morning with anything other than phone trading. Guy on the bbs called me a control freak. Probably couldn't spell dominatrix! There is a little rumour that the first lady of Scottish politics has bought a picture of herself with whips etc. for above her fireplace. And our gentle giant of the Highlands who died this week on hearing of a fellow politician or some sort involved in some Profumo like scandal is reported this week as having asked his aide "exactly what does a dominatrix do" Thorntons Silverburn one of the few shops in silverburn open before 10 am this morning. Did see a few chocoholics in there at the back of 9. The Skye boat song denis. Off to see if I can pick up any bargains before close of play. As you can imagine denis, am going to be preferring to spend more time in the fresh air over the coming weeks. Was working very late last night. Piecing together what the three of you are telling me, it seems my broker was maybe telling me what they had done in the past and with the current or most recent divi but from what you say that will be subject to change in the future and the changes would suit my mum in law. I'll deal with it later in the week but suffice to say she'll have been getting something in one form or other - cash or more shares - by way of a divi. Lucky woman some might say. atb.

I'll speak to her personally later in the week. I think she would like the cash income option each quarter and we'll need to check if she has opted for extra shares instead. The shares she holds are not in a nominee account but are possibly paperless and have maybe been growing in number each quarter if she has been receiving extra shares instead of a cash divi. I checked with my own broker and they were saying due to tax advantages and a tight timetable, they opt for extra shares for clients as a default position and so the option is not offered by them to receive cash. I suppose it can be a bit complex even for the young and agile like us. Just as well there are still helpful and informative posters like you around bonz. Goodnight.

Was going for over £5 recently. Fog on Greece should lift soon. Didn't know the mum-in-law had these Bonz until she phoned with a query re. the most recent divi - wanted cash but got more shares. Not sure of the position so will research it today. Might have been something to do with her specific broker (paper shares held for a long time) or a one off situation.

Thanks for a very thought provoking post. I was going to buy into bg as a possible way of getting cheap shell shares and then noticed the shell price falling back on its own. I have been holding shares in a few companies over the years when a takeover bid has come in. The high expectations of the holders have generally not been met but there has only been one bidder in those cases. Not even worth trying to plough your way through the takeover code in my experience. Let's hope there is a decent premium on the price here for the long termers. Nerve- racking stuff for them given what happened at 888 earlier this year. atb.

Hi Bruce can you say more about why you think this is a strong buy at the current price. It was a great buy last month in the seventies and I was lucky to buy and trade a few when I was on holiday then and so Kamel and I will have done alright here Jacques with a divi thrown in. After the initial surge on the definite takeover news, this price has been pure pants. Not looking anything like a share at the centre of a takeover battle to me. In short, why is the price not higher.

That's a couple of Tesco holders have braved it onto the bb now to talk about the company. One poster has elucidated on why it might make sense to short your own shares or short the company your wife works for and has a substantial holding in or gets a pension from. Wonder if sid here would agree with Mrs. Sid working for thorntons. In the case of something I held, the shorting of a company by the professionals was linked in to the finances needed for the takeover of another company I would guess. We were clearing out cupboards and my son found his Christmas stocking overflow bag from 2013 we think judging by the sell by dates. I used to keep control of these things in kitchen cupboards until the kids started getting protective of their own property and a lot of trading and exchanging of items went on upstairs. Kids will not eat this serendipity but they haven't been brought up like me and with my strong constitution and waste not want not philosophy. As articles go, it was very detailed and balanced I thought and I was in such a hurry today I only had time to skim over it but is worthy of a more thorough read by me over the next few days. atb

Thanks for interesting posts both. Was out most of today so wouldn't have rushed to spend the divi but it wasn't in my account anyway. Never had a divi from this lot before but usually divis from other companies make their way into my account by the close of business on the scheduled payment date. Was definitely approved at the agm. I'l check tomorrow again.
