I think it is the strategy that concerns some more as they can't take over everything in the High Street and need to focus on a couple of projects including the main business at a time. A lot of experienced investors and traders were trading thorntons for buttons before the takeover announcement but there was one lse poster - can't remember who - was quite perceptive and obviously did very well out of it. I am going to try my luck with a trading tranche and a locked in tranche. The trading tranche reaped me enough for a three chimneys lunch last week. Could do better.

It is certainly not the entire retail environment though as you only have to look at Burberry this week and JD so I'm not pinning my hopes only on a santa rally and the interims around that time. This share buy back could kick in before then and might be more effective than other companies which have bought back shares at recent highs but I am thinking more about the whole company being bought back and how much Odey would accept. Different perspectives I suppose the trader has versus the investor. People on these bbs say sell quicky when a share falls to preserve your capital and that is sound advice if you have bought a complete howler that you wouldn't touch again but I'm inclined to think that's a sure fire recipe for a small investor to get burned out particularly when you have things in the main market not even Aims like hoc and fres which can multibag from low levels in a matter of months. I hope there is no buy back announcement while you are out of this. It's been denied that there is any thought about doing that and I guess I've been a bit more sceptical than yourself and others about the prospect of that in the past. Don't know what to believe though. Another month before interest rate cut speculation starts again re. your house builder etc. but nice increase in profits announced by bdev yesterday. We only have something like 4 dunelm stores in Scotland and that's enough if we are to avoid a supermarket type saturation thing with wilco, home bargains and the rest all selling the same plastic tat. Mike is hopefully just being nosey to get insight into what was going on. I was going to buy back in here last week as I think the stock can recover over the late summer and the bhs stuff put me off.
