That shows a bit of nous on the part of spd. I have known of other companies that have sold shares in other companies at a massive loss. It also means that spd could access funds quickly if they wanted to to do a share buyback here though some were suggesting on here that they had no such funds and would need to borrow

Well it's all speculation. Somebody even posted what would now look like rosey figures on here of how much would be offered a few months ago and said more recently it would be for as cheaply as Mike Ashley could get it. The anecdotes from the select committee stuff seemed a bit odd to me in places. Baby born in the toilet and we don't know if it was premature but who would go into work close to their due date. What about statutory maternity pay? If it doesn't apply to a few then that's for the MPs to look at. Some of the other stories frankly would be an affront to women workers and make us look like people who are always pulling sickies for the least excuse etc. Haven't read the report or related paperwork but did watch the hearing proceedings and think the visit by MPs to the warehouse will be interesting.

HI again JP Well I had hoped you had managed to sell deb's at a profit to buy in here as it was on an up trend at the time. Closure of all 114 bhs stores expected next month and I actually think, as I have always done, that far from spd benefiting from buying bhs or parts thereof , it has had a lucky escape but somebody will gain its albeit dwindling number of customers. Did you not post about spd interest in Austin Reed as well. Blimey makes you wonder if spd could actually afford to buy any of the planned acquisitions written about on here a few months ago as a reason for buying in here or if they could afford to buy the options in deb if the strike price triggered. I think I will just go away and scratch my head at some people's ever changing views on here. Goodnight.

Hi JP I have succumbed to the wishes of the rest of the family and am getting on a plane in a few hours to an away vacation though I was happy enough with my stay vacation here in the UK. I think I can understand why you keep labouring the point about dark times for retail if you sold tesco and deb shares in addition to spd shares at a loss recently. I have said to you that in retail there are always winners and losers at any given time so you can never talk about the sector as a whole - jd being one experiencing a bit of a purple patch at the moment. Just wonder why though you thought it could be good for spd to buy the twice recently failed bhs if you think the entire High Street is in a mess and really why you bought spd. I think you said Ashley might buy back the company though there have been strong denials but I personally wouldn't rule that particular one out. I saw you looking for conversation on the bdev bb. What to say. I bought three small tranches on results day because they looked good and managed to trade them all but the sector as a whole faces a few challenges at the current time. Mebbes I should go on there and say because I am out of it at the current time, it has further to fall but that might be a tad transparent so best to say nothing. They are not always right of course but they have been providing pensions for years and that's good enough for me coupled with the fact that Marshall Wace have seen fit to reduce their short position and Odey appears not to be selling. I'm down a couple of per cent on my last buy at the moment but not enough to start panicking or thinking that I will not get a turn on that tranche like all the others before. After I sold tesco with a tiny profit, I continued posting on the bb and came to the conclusion that it was a waste of time and energy posting on a bb where I had no holiding - mind you I wasn't thinking of buying the shares again at any imminent date. Ladies golf tournament at Dundonald for me this afternoon. Have a good weekend.

Thanks. So it's a dog but it's a dog worth watching. I get that. I am sure I am not alone in thinking the practices of quite a number of our politicians make the spd managment look positvely saintlike and that the Icon point by lse is the freshest point to be raised on the spd bbs for quite a while all the best.

I have a small long position here would you mind just for transparency sake declaring what your obvious interest is in spd? As I said a couple of weeks back on another bb, I spotted a stray M & S trolley in Siverburn and said to my son he could earn a pound by taking it back and away from the parked cars. It was a warm day like today and he still had his hooded jacket from sports direct with him and earned his pound but left the jacket in the trolley lol. The jacket was about a year and a half old so I wasn't too bothered but, for curiosity sake, I contacted both M & S and the shopping mall's customers services and the jacket wasn't handed in. So either a hard up trolley attendent has had an unexpected bonus to boost his meagre pay but I doubt Marks would allow that or there is a trendy pensioner in the Mearns wearing that jacket to walk his dogs waiting for his Markie's Jersey milk or cream to cool down his porridge. Son took his hoodless Everlast - a free gift from sports direct linked into a Newcaste score line on holiday - thinks it's great and warm for up here but he'll need a new hooded jacket soon. No prizes for guessing where he'll go guys to buy that. Look city folk don't go into tofs the factory shop or sports direct for their adidas or anything else for that matter but it doesn't matter because "the great unwashed " masses as one Devonshire poster on these bbs called them do.
