Hi Dip Well HoF Glasgow was the most profitable or least loss making store in the chain which doesn't say much for the rest of the group. The generations who used it and bought their clothes in M & S are sadly dying off. I don't shop in Glasgow city centre very often because I can park for free in Silverburn and Braehead and the rest which the town planners saw as the way forward where debenhams have a presence but HoF never reached. The population of the city - after years of decline during Fraser's heyday - has stopped falling but that is purely down to the immigrants who wouldn't shop in Frasers as they open their own bazaars and mini emporium rivalling spd stock.
People make Glasgow and the "we are the people" Rangers supporters are not keen on Mike Ashley just as the Geordies feel about him. If sir Tom Hunter couldn't see HoF having much to offer him then I don't know what Mike's future son- in- law or godson or whoever he is, the head of elevation, thinks he can do with it. Remember EY were on the verge of letting it go for £1. Brilliant masterstroke that paying £90 million for something that never made a profit in years and risking losing out on debs to competitors and the only decent thing to have made money for him of late was buying shares in his rival jd.
The leader of Glasgow Council is obviously delighted at the Strathclyde Pension Fund getting shot of an old listed building where the floor boards creaked and any refurb plans will be bound up in red tape but she will need to tread very warily because if there is any whiff of zero hours contracts and the like, her party will be expected to speak out. Complete can of worms.
Hey Mulder you never know deb's could do a Next. Didn't the share price sink as low as 3p or something. Any more blunders from the family operation that is spd and you could get your wish. I guess some men should retire at 50 but they had better be sure the next generation have some talent and vision. Juries out at the moment.
