RE: more business for novacyt4 Aug 2021 06:05
I agree this is a good thing and Novacyt partners will likely pick up more business. I do think that Sajid will review those private test providers and possibly weed out a few that can't deliver a service.
Some of this was however driven by government when Grant Shapps came out with that crap about forcing pricing down. As what it did was cause a wave of new entrants with cheap prices that couldn't deliver, that is what we see on the government approved list and most of those now need removing. AND they will because I'm still of the opinion that government are going to push testing more and more towards the private sector so it needs to be right.
However, Maintaining quality standards is really what is important here so i hope Sajid considers that, not just trying to do things on the cheap. Obviously, a home postal test is going to be cheaper than going somewhere for a test. Once a test needs a lab to evaluate it or staff to carry out the test, the costs will go up. If you are testing people at an airport and the testing provider is having to pay for Airport space rental, staffing costs etc, their base costs will be higher to start with. Its all relevant to what they can then charge. I mean, you only have to buy a pre-pack ham sandwich at Heathrow airport and its costs you treble what you would pay elsewhere!!!
Recently my daughter went on short cruise and had a PCR test before going via a test centre, it was £ 149 and she got her results a few hours later, job done, no worries, no issues, well worth the money.
Meanwhile, I had a test myself about six months back, fortunately i wasn't going anywhere, and used a postal service. I used an online PCR test provider called Kilter. It cost me £105. The kit arrived (made in china) it was posted back to a lab in Barnard Castle and they lost it !! i was chasing it for days, eventually it showed up and the test was negative. they issued the certificate and gave me a full refund. However, if i had been going away, i would have been mighty p@ssed as i wouldn't have got the result back in time!!!
So quality and value is the key imo. Appreciate some want things as cheap as possible but generally People won't object to paying a bit more if the service is there. If government want to drive costs down then perhaps get the airlines, airports or travel firms to contribute.
But yes, agree its a start if at least the bogus and poor service providers get eradicated. More business for the quality providers
