He was talking about the success of a trial that has proven that saliva is the perfect sample to use. That’s what the trial was about. The test used is irrelevant. You can try scaling up Optigene, but you’ll have quite the logistical nightmare with pots of spit everywhere. Plus you’ve got to get them back to a lab with a 24 hour turnaround if you’re lucky, all assuming you can scale up those tests sensibly.

Alternatively, you could use the holy grail. The trial was a roaring success to pave the way for Awacta, but didn’t use LFDs.

Great idea, best to use a saliva LFD test that identifies people during the infectious period though

Infectivity is related to the date of onset of symptoms and cycle threshold level. A binary Yes/No approach to the interpretation RT-PCR unvalidated against viral culture will result in false positives with segregation of large numbers of people who are no longer infectious and hence not a threat to public health

It’s basic economics and the demand is huge. If the UK govt won’t pay the asking price they’ll be sold elsewhere. Sir Al has said that he expects to sell them at $30 DTC and $15 in bulk. £2 is a ridiculous suggestion, it’s barely above cost and there are multiple mouths to feed. If Bill Gates wants to chuck in a few billion to sell them on at cost, then that’s up to him. Awacta are a private business selling a product, it won’t be dictated by a govt just because they’re buying a lot. The costs of testing compared with the economic damage provides a great return on investment at a tenner a test.

Prof Bell is advising the govt and has said, clearly, that antigen testing is most important. Not a revelation in itself, but having signed up with the govt RTCs manufacturing partners it’s clear the capacity will be coming our way.

We all know RK loves a pump and dump, no doubt he had a little slice when he ‘doubled up’ or recently ‘topped up’. Nothing he posts, with the notable exception of a single post in several months, is of any interest or influence to anyone that knows his game. Putting that to one side, your targets are ridiculously low. The £100bn plan centres on lateral flow antigen tests. With the recent set back, a vaccine is still a long way away and no one knows how effective it could be for the percentage of people willing to take a risk with their health. Testing the population regularly throughout the winter is worth many billions and that’s just the UK. It all comes down the capacity, everything else is lining up beautifully and the price will be much much higher than £4.

He’s perfectly describing the patient wait for validation of Awacta’s test and it’s fantastic to hear everyone talking about viral loads when infectious. The 70-80pc referred to equates to 100pc during the infectious period. Everything points to Awacta being the holy grail. The only unfortunate thing is the use of the phrase a few weeks

There aren’t any concerns when it comes to timescales anymore. Not when the govt have put aside £100bn and are looking to ramp up efforts over the course of 3 months. I’m all for kicking back and relaxing with popcorn watching it unfold. Particularly as they’ve repeatedly referenced a holy grail of lateral flow antigen tests. Meanwhile BAMS can pop up and help them achieve some of the additional capacity they need right now - purely incremental and there’s no concerns over a lack of reagents.

Once we’ve fixed the short term problems with BAMS, medium term problems with the LFD, we then establish the long term monitoring with our sh.tty friends at Skin. I’m increasingly convinced Sir Al is a savant. How else could he dream up the perfect combo of tests?

The govt have said they aren’t going to talk about any test that isn’t validated. Awacta can’t announced a LOI from the govt as there won’t be one until it’s validated. However, procurement can take place at the same time as validation. They’ll have seen the data from the lab and prototypes. The second they declare it the greatest test on the planet, they’ll be signing contracts and it’ll be all over every news and media outlet in the world. Starting with the Yorkshire Post and our favourite Julian Clary impressionist Giles.

It’s expensive, requires an operator and despite the headline 20 second claim, the video clip showed them faffing about for 90 seconds and that was rehearsed. It’s a low throughput solution as it’s one test at a time. Not impressed, but good luck to them.

Can you remember how exciting it was when we heard about £5Bn? Only a few weeks later and it’s £100Bn and we’ve seen leaked govt docs referring to the holy grail at home lateral flow antigen test. Why isn’t the share price much higher?! This is an unbelievable opportunity. Oops. I’ve just done a special wee. There’s currently no competition on the planet, but just 5% of that cash is worth £20 a share and people are suggesting those kind of numbers are pie in the sky. That’s just one country. Plus everything else that’s going on. Incredible.

My post was about saliva as sample... saliva sample trials. I don’t believe for a second he was talking about Awacta. What he was doing was confirming that saliva is as good as a swab though. As we’ve designed and optimised an LFD for saliva, it’s looking reasonably promising. In fact, I’d call it the holy grail of testing.
