Basically it depends what toxins and/or CO2 that is released during the production of the hydrogen, and as electricity is required to produce hydrogen, regardless of which process is used, then it comes back to what kind of electricity is used.

As far as PHE's DMG is concerned, I believe that there will be a small amount of toxins remaining in the ash, but not released into the atmosphere, and there will be a percentage of carbon monoxide in the syngas after removing the hydrogen, so I don't know what "colour" will be applied to the hydrogen that is produced from the process.

However, the hydrogen produced from the DMG process will be 99.999% pure (5-nines) which is suitable for vehicle fuel. But that is a different matter from the "green hydrogen" categorisation.

Whether hydrogen is termed green or any other colour depends on the source of the electricity used to produce it. So if by electrolysis or methane reformation, if renewable energy is used (solar, wind or hydro) then it would be green hydrogen. If diesel generators are used to produce the electricity, then the hydrogen will certainly not be green.

I would guess that when they say that the boilers can only run on "green" hydrogen they are probably referring to the purity of hydrogen i.e. 99.999% pure, which is what is required for vehicles as well. "Green" hydrogen produced by electrolysis (i.e ITM) will presumably have this level of purity, and PHE's hydrogen produced for road vehicles will also have 99.999% purity.

Well not quite, IMHO. I think we should see upward movement when "Financial Close" is announced by Peel, which I think is expected any time between now and March, and then again at various key points during construction and installation. So I don't expect to see a steady climb, but I think it will be "lumpy".

I was mainly interested in the banning of the export of plastic to the Far East an other countries where it ends up in the sea and causes all sorts of havoc. Much better to keep it in the UK and deal with it properly i.e. by turning it into hydrogen and/or electricity through DMG processes.

In my view the US market is always going to be fraught with litigation. Perhaps best to avoid altogether and stick with the rest of the world.

I believe that's the case, Doc. If developers of the PHE system require more throughput, I believe the plan would be to add more DMG units at the same site, and run them in parallel. There would be economies of scale by doing that, and at the same time avoid the risks associated with scaling up the size of the individual unit.

Although PHE will be taking a share in the SPV for the first DMG at Protos, they will not be the operator. That is down to Peel. So with regard to this particular unit, PHE will receive a % share of the profits from the SPV as well as the licence fees and consultancy for the engineering etc., and the other income streams mentioned in the presentation.

I believe that may be the plan initially.

I believe that PHE will want to focus on providing pure (99.999%) hydrogen for vehicle fuel, rather than for the gas network. Natural gas produces much less CO2 and toxins than diesel in vehicles and generators.

Hydrogen fuelled planes I could live with, but pilotless?

They would need to be bloody big batteries!

There still seems to be buyers around, so perhaps it will start to turn back up shortly.
But we really need some news about sales.
