Thanks for info on this drop - makes me feel a bit better :-) prob holding as much pmo as I want so reluctant to top up here. A few years ago Deutsche bank was scrapping under 10eu and there was big concern as it would impact virtually everyone given their size, it then rose to around 17eu . Now it’s around 6.5eu! Not heard the same concerns yet but what else is causing such pessimism today? We might even get rid of May :-)

That’s a very good point and a positive way to view this, your glass is definitely half full today :-) it also stops the shale producers eyeing a juicy profit margin and increasing the rig count. Oil at a near constant 70+ pays of the debt but doesn’t rock the boat too much either. But let’s just hope trump gets an fta after this, and probably more volatility- he’s up for re-election in 2020 so he must have his eye on that.

It could be a positive update all the way but with one stat or statement that causes the market to react negatively- seen this often of late recently, so hoping for the best but preparing for this situation too.

In 2018 - so TD must have a focus on this? I know he was asked about Chevron assets and he kept his options open - surely a true negotiation position? Taking nothing off the table so not limiting your options, as opposed to May’s non-negotiation negotiating strategy:-) some of our MPs who went to top unis do make me question how they got there - May, Miliband (both of them, same college too, hmmm) , Abbott.

Is the price increase due to tensions/news in the Middle East? Normally it’s short lived and the market knows this so pmo makes a little more for a few days but the price trend will probably revert soon. A genuine price increase like the us/Chiba fta would produce a genuine and sustained rise.

Times is leading it’s business section with Metro requiring a larger RI, this can play out as lowering the SP even more but then it comes back quickly if the actual size is not as bad as the worst case scenario. The if part is a pain!

We won’t know if this is a great price to top up till tomorrow or Monday when the outcome of the trade talks will be known, then you’ll either be very happy or kicking yourself! Possibly a Theresa May outcome of “nothing concrete decided so we’ll kick the due date down the road”. I’m holding enough already so will wait for the outcome first and top up on any dip.

I know the feeling, I’m way long on this already and still tempted to buy more but *just* resisting at present- some diversification is good but too much is bad (unless you’re protecting large sums from localised volatility - not me :-) Might wait till Friday as trade deal uncertainties will continue to weigh on everything imo.

Guess they get clicks for people reading both pages and can also cite historical articles where they predicted correctly what was going to happen!

A lot rests on getting that trade deal. Looking at futures prices for Brent there’s not much optimism for rising prices, so delicate times ahead.

With all the Brexit malarkey it was why I started looking at oil again, it has global appeal so Brexit would only be a blip rather than more U.K. specific companies. As to a Corbyn govt I could well imagine them coming down hard on oil firms to signal their intended green credentials so looking for foreign options could be a good idea too.

Who thinks this is Trump negotiating? The Chinese govt is still sending officials over for the next meeting, oil is still over $70. Some compromise in the offing? That’ll save face on both sides. Let’s hope so.

Thanks for reminding me of the numbers, it was a few years back. My experience of pfg ri was that some saw the 315 as an ‘expected’ price ie what the market thought was a forward expectation. This didn’t account for the suppression of sp due to uncertainty and short holdings. Once underway the shorters closed and up went the price as the company had its cash injection, plus Metro is still turning a profit. If it had large debts to finance the shorters would be much more likely to stay in but that’s not the case here.

Alexios, I recall the PFG RI announced at 415 (or something similar) when the SP was around 550 and the SP peaked at 1100 on the day itself! Why would that be the case for pfg but not metro? Not saying it will be but it’s not clear to me 100% either way.
