Not sure why you think this is a dog, or indeed why you believe there is a lack of growth.
It's annoying when the SP falls below what you paid, I personally am down on paper 2.35% on 3195 shares. It happens, but when I consider my reason for aquiring the stock, nothing has changed except the SP has fallen. It dosen't change the stocks fundamentals.
It has a dividend yield around 5.27% which is well above average, and for the most part is pretty reliable.
The current P/E ratio of 5.68 which may mean it offers good value, and in my opinion it does.
It has a net profit margin of around 6.01% which when compared with peers in its sector, I must admit isn't fantastic.
However it has a plowback ratio of around 70.09%, which the latest information I have shows is used to fuel growth of 10.53%.
When looking at its net debt and its enterprise value, the debt is higher than I would like, but AV. has sufficient cash to service the debt, and the level of debt is by no means unusual in this sector.
Would I hold this stock as more than about 5% of my portfolio, no I wouldn't, but there are very few that I would.
Its one of the two stocks I hold in the 'Life Insurance' sector, and over the next 10 years I expect to see inflation beating returns.
