Jack, today should mark a turning point (both big UK majors now results out) People seem to forget that the US elections is about more than just politics. It's big business. All those politicians have vested interests & global oil represents a huge chunk of that. Personally i don't care who gets in the White House. Just get in there & get on with it!
N.B what would be bad is Trump losing & challenging. We'll be stuffed over then for a while!

i got a bit stung on IAG with the pre RI stuff. My worst ever investment. I managed to scrape out of it just about break even but was lucky as was sat on big loss for a while!

What matters is get the election over & done with. Remove the uncertainty. Oil shares always rise after US election. will go up more with Trump but will go up regardless. that's all that matters!

The oil price is not a huge factor lowering this SP in my view. I had these shares back in may/june at 300-370 & the OP was much lower then. Poor sentiment/panic/uncertainty are the drivers here. Post US election i expect the drop to stop. Not huge rises but it'll slowly settle!

yep, BRJ i do feel sorry for holding investors who have been caught up in the collapse on almost all shares really! most don't come on these boards either or else they'd be so annoyed at people frustrated they haven't made a 10% daily profitable flip!

My view is that this is a mid term hold. I never really say long term as such anymore as Covid has changed all that & the volatility on almost every share has necessitated some form of trading in order to miss losing losing profit & seeing prices tank after nice high points. I believe this will continue while covid has a hold on the world. This share is not for day trading though in my view. Go to Boohoo or even IAG or RR for that. This share may fall possibly to 170 or even lower but investors should only be concerned here if they need the cash short term in which case they should never have invested it! The cash people put here should be cash which would otherwise be in a BS account or premium bond etc. Anyone who has treated their buy in in that way will absolutely not lose anything here. The yield will ultimately pay back most of the price you paid for the shares & the capital gain which will come in time will be the icing on the cake. GLA & remember this is a patience game!

This will be £4+ once the covid rubbish is over. invest what you can at prices like this & throw it in the drawer for a few years. Patience & no panic that is all that is needed!

Yep, i have to agree. Looney's comments about the dividend certainly reassured me. They seem commited to paying it out & little risk of the divi getting pulled. I thought that would encourage buyers, seemingly not. However, today is a bit of an across the board bloodbath so wait & see where it all settles by end of week. Personally i think the impact of the US election is being well overdone here. Some volatility for sure but once election result is out i expect the markets to get back to some normality with the uncertainty out of the way!

yes, to be fair i've been looking at LGEN as an investment. Point is Zac there's not a lot of them about about really. There are some great potential future ones which have suspended their divis due to covid that's for sure. Personally if i knew BP would keep this level of divi for certain i would categorically hold this share for many years. Never know when they might pull it that's the concern!

impossible to tell in this Covid climate. Personally i took a position @200. Clearly not the lows but i'm happy to be in at that price. IMO those results showed green positive shoots which will hopefully trigger a reversal of some sort before too long. The lower this goes the more attractive the divi yield becomes. The buyers will come in soon i'm sure!

Guess we should be grateful. BT just got rid of what was a very nice divi altogether few months back. Investors ran a mile when that happened!

I'm not sure of any stocks at the moment offering a better divi yield than BP. The divi was big attraction to me for this share as it's an incentive to hold long term. capital growth is important of course, but so few stocks are paying good divis now. This offers a bit of both!
