I think Tacet makes valid points on shorting & how it works. I think i made a point on here a while back about how MMs manipulate the SP! I've seen what's described happen on quite a few shares, IAG a good example & RR is a really good one & i'm kicking myself as nearly bought there in the low 100s but bottled it! Point i would make here is this. I'm no big fan of short selling, however i've learnt that you have to learn to use it to your advantage. Tacet at some point shorts will close their position. Usually when they identify price support pressure. This is why they thrive in the current climate as they can create illusions of a crash (eg RR) then mop up all the cheap shares. From a PI perspective i believe the key is spotting the support level which is nigh on impossible with BP as it is in uncharted territory from a TA perspective. Personally i bought in here @200 as i felt there was huge support at 194 & subsequently @189/190. I believe this share may test those levels again early next week & if it stays above those levels we should be on a reversal. I don't agree with only buy when it's above 212!

The simple way to look at this share at this level: 200. What is more likely? will it go to 150? or will it go to 250? Whatever you think is more likely a few weeks or months down the road is what should influence your decision whether to invest or not!

I pulled the rest of my shares here yesterday @166, been in here since August so reasonable profit. Can't see the rises holding so will come back in back in the 140s. I may be wrong but am surprised how it's gone up given all the lockdowns in it's main areas: Spain, US & here. I might regret this but time will tell. A great share for the long term but will be volatile i'm sure!

i'd agree with that Kince TA is all well & good & i do a bit myself. Bottom line for me here is you have a huge major company trading at 30 year low prices. The company is struggling due to the current pandemic & geopolitical factors which are really things which are out of it's hands. These things will eventually pass & new challenges will emerge. Regardless, i think everyone knows this is a great bargain at these levels. Sure, it may go lower; in the mid-longer term however we all know this will be back at much higher levels than it is now. A high reward/low risk investment IMO!

For me this will be a confirmed turnaround by tomorrow morning. If the US result is decisive i believe this share will continue rising unabated. Trump or Biden doesn't matter to me. A contested result will be the worst case possible IMO

if you're confident your chosen share is on the rise the dividend should just be a passing benefit. The notion of selling & buying a stock pre & ex dividend to me is bizarre & risky, & incurs more trading cost & stamp duty.

the simple answer is if you want the dividend, you will only get it after we know the US election result as i assume that is the reason peeps may be keen to sell!

& the Government is still doing it. Using taxpayers cash to save face rather than face up to their incompetent handling of this whole C19 debacle. Lets be honest, only reason a load of shares didn't tank today is because the furlough is going to cover all their costs so lockdown is probably a life saver for some companies which should really be going bust if the market economy was being allowed to function as it should be. Thatcher would have dealt with this properly!

Sunak, messed up the furlough. Way too generous & a knee jerk response. Irresponsible use of public money. Half the country treated it as a free 6 month holiday with pay. Furlough should have been set at minimum wage level as a safety net & to incentivise the return to work. Absolute shambles!

the divi date is insignificant. Everyone knows the ex div date. The market just adjusts the price on the ex div date. It doesn't impact supply & demand. You could have qualified for the dividend if you bought at 188, 195 or 200, it doesn't make any difference & if the market sentiment is bullish on Thursday the market adjustment won't even be noticeable!

this share is not dictated by the oil price. This was trading 300-370 when oil was $30pb!

Anyone who thinks a share rises on a scramble to catch a dividend doesn't understand the way investing works. This SP will automatically drop 4p on Thurs (ex div date)

no doubt it'll drop due to lockdown sentiment. 180 lowest i would guess at some point but won't stay there too long!

Personally i was seriously thinking of changing to an EV this time last year. eGolf. I had a great finance deal & everything lined up; & plans for home charger to be installed everything looked rosy & i thought long term it would save me a packet. I do a 40 mile round commute so the range wasn't a big issue (140miles real world range e golf) & on paper the electric bills looked like they could be much cheaper. However the reality is & what ultimately put me off is the roll out of EV chargers, or rather the lack of them. You get the odd one (always taken) in big supermarket/retail centre carparks & the motorway ones if you can find them charge huge amounts per Kw charge ups. I decided that while i'm sold conceptually on this, it's still too new. Point i'm making is in practical terms petrol & diesel is here for a long time yet but as we can see BP are planning for this change over when it comes (which it will) i'm very confident BP is a great investment. If it drops tomorrow all i can say is buy because i will be. GLA

150 not a bad price just bad timing by the sounds Mazz. way undervalued at that level, just gotta ride out this nonsense!
