EVs and hybrids create more CO2 during manufacture than conventional petrol/diesel cars of the same sort of size/class.

Regarding electric cars, a recent documentary showed how useless they are for anyone not living in a developed country with a good charging infrastructure.
Even then, as LTT says, if you don't live in a house with off-road parking, recharging can be a real problem.
Then there are all the charging service providers, with so many different standards, but then your clever in-car system will tell you where you can find a recharging place within reach of your charge range. When you get there, some git with a diesel has parked in the bay, or the point is broken, or it's another system.

And then, a substantial proportion of the "green" electricity has been generated by oil/gas/coal, because green energy generators can sell their unwanted green energy tokens/certificates to non-green generators.

So green EVs are not as great as it says on the tin, the participants are cheating to make us believe all's well and frankly, for the time being, I'm happy with my 6-year old Ford, until all these issues have been sorted.

"Next steps" will be whatever gives Chrysaor the biggest ROI.

Of course most of us are biased, but if you're sitting in the Board room, acquiring a load of stuff at rock bottom prices, when oil/gas are so out-of-fashion, you're going to start off with anything that generates revenue, so the North sea, with its massive tax benefits is a no brainer. You run this into the ground as the resources run out and you've squeezed the tax benefits to the limit.

But then, there's the longer-term future, which the North Sea doesn't really provide (but it does provide steady revenue to keep the next steps on track).

Zama looks dodgy, what with the situation with Pemex, out-and-out corruption and piracy in the region, so I'd wait until the PoO recovers before finally deciding what to do, which is almost certainly to "monetise" it, which was the rumour flying around at least 3 years ago. Any changes since then reinforce that rumour.

Then, looking at the rest of the portfolio, what have we got?
There's one pretty much "oven ready" (as Boris would say), potentially massive area, with an enthusiastic and benign local government and even the possibility of a cheap UK Government loan, just to sweeten things further.
Service support providers are going to be falling over themselves to get involved in a new production region, when the sentiment is so depressed.

After all this time and so many banana skins, I'm not saying that SL's a 100% dead cert, but you have to ask yourself why Chrysaor has taken an interest in PMO.
While the North Sea assets are attractive, I reckon they're just the first course of their (Chrysaor's) planned banquet, where they plan to become very rich from an indispensable commodity that's currently so out-of-fashion.

I see Gozzie not happy about the suggestion of UKEF involvement and he may be right. There are arguments either way.
It could be beneficial to have a cheapish loan , if there's one on offer, and useful having HMG committing to the project, which sends many signals.
With Boris' public commitments to carbon reduction and chairing the UN Climate Change Conference, this loan might not look too good.
On the other hand, we know that if Boris wants to do something, he doesn't care what others think.

sp movement always precedes action, so it'll either be "it's all over for the FI" (which I doubt, for all the very good reasons already stated below), or it'll be the published plans, UKEF application, etc.

The RKH sp will anticipate whichever way it goes and I'm betting on the latter.

Interesting how one can describe something in so many ways from different perspectives, but another way might be:

SL discovered 10 years ago and considering what's happened since then, it's amazing that RKH still survives, with at least some prospect of a successful outcome.

I still reckon RKH is going be taken out and enough shareholders will take the offer, rather than wait even longer.
Some, perhaps all of an offer might be in Chrysaor/PMO shares, so shareholders would still have a chance of taking the spoils, if they live long enough.

I have a feeling that RKH isn't going to be around at sanction.
No one's going to take it out while any issues remain uncertain, but once they're clearer and funding is lined-up, then I think the grown-ups won't want to have a kindergarten, managed by amateurs, getting under their feet.

For anyone with deep pockets and BIG ideas, think of all the licence potential to be picked up cheap, when so many believe oil's already finished.

Things like the the recent conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh (still not really resolved), and the security of pipelines in the region, and the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, possibly by the Israelis, must be causing some concern about oil and gas supply stability, particularly to Europe.

If I were signing-off UKEF applications, despite government climate change commitments, I think I'd happily approve an application for funding SL sanction, to help ensure UK energy supplies in uncertain times.
If you think what HMG has spent on COVID and several vaccine options, a few £100 Million (which is almost certain to be repaid with interest) on assuring energy supplies is a no brainer.

One concern I have about the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, if the Israelis are behind it, is that by getting too closely involved with NAVITAS, might RKH be inviting the Iranians to assist the Peronists in their claim on "Las Malvinas"?

For years, I (and most others here) have said that this is no more than a glorified bet, so in that context, it's not as dead as the dodo yet, but just like the dodo, it isn't flying either!

No one has a clue whether RKH is going to get an award and if it does, what it might be and when it'll be announced, except that with every day that passes, that's a day nearer to knowing the answer.
Nigoil, on ADVFN, has been promising great news "tomorrow" for as long as I can remember. He shouts at anyone who dares to challenge/disagree, which tells you how much he knows, because his shouting rants and incorrect forecasts amount to virtually his total output and we're still waiting.

You've got to think for yourself and weigh-up the FACTS that are known, then reach your conclusion.
If you follow that process thoroughly and honestly, your opinion will be as good as anyone else's and considerably better than the rubbish posted by Nigoil, Gozzie, Ralph, Kurgan etc.

I don't believe the lawyers would have given so much of their time and energy over such a long period, free-of-charge, if they didn't believe there's a reasonable chance of success, from which they then stand to gain a lot.

Lots of unexpected banana skins have added to the uncertainty, but my personal opinion is that if there are no more significant bananas, COVID has probably been good for RKH, there could well be some sort of OM award, which would enough to fund RKH up to FID, Chrysaor will probably enable SL to go ahead sooner than with PMO on their own, and what happens to the rest of the FI region after that will depend on a load of other factors that are not clear/certain right now (e.g. economic recovery from COVID, PoO, the demise of oil, etc.).

In between enjoying another bottle of Champers, I'm sure Sam has thought of this and the lawyers have advised him to leave things with them.

Good point and agreed, but if PoO got to $85, that would make a considerable difference to everyone's thinking, especially as governments generally have some eye-watering borrowing numbers to address.

On reflection, I reckon $85 could be quite a bad thing, as that would stimulate the US frackers, which is just what we don't want.

Obviously $65 would be better and $85 would be even better still.

$55 has been the official quoted number. That might even come down a bit if there's been some strong haggling going on and perhaps FIG might make some tax allowances.

Yes, they could "walk away", but if you look at the excitement elsewhere in the World about possible new oil fields about to be drilled, that would seem somewhat odd, when just about everything regarding the FI is ready to go, with proven technology and a benign local government that really wants it to happen.
