I think Putin needs to take Mariupol so he controls a land bridge from Crimea to the rebel areas he will feel he has what he wants.
Originally he definitely wanted to replace the president but as he never actually stated that he can drop it.

He will want Urkaine to accept that Crimea, the rebel areas and the land bridge between them are all now part of Russia and if they accept that I think it will be a ceasefire.

I don't know if they will accept it though, very tough decisions but Russia definitely are getting a bloody nose in this invasion which is why they have switched to just attacking any target not just military.

Also shows how war has changed, big tank and armored vehicles are now much weaker against infantry with anti tank/vehicle weaponry.
Russia is a massive, powerful army, but outdated.They would never be able to 'conquer' all of Ukraine but I don't believe that was ever the expectation, just launch a quick attack, take southeast to get bridge to Crimea and take capital to get rid of president.

I don't see this stock or Polymetal that risky compared to reward but then everyone has their own level of risk v reward and are in different place.
I also own Ferrexpo shares and those are shares I'd tell people to be wary of buying and make sure you understand the risks but for Evrez no infrastructure, ports or rail they use will be damaged at all so longterm IMO the risk is extremely low.
I also can't see sanctions on mining stocks, finance obviously and oil and gas possibly if EU bite the bullet on that but not mining.
Definitely though one to be very careful if your horizon is less than a year or so as it jumps all over the place at mo even intraday

Just being on the FTSE doesn't make it 'really' British so make sure you know your risks.
That is I don't see sanctions going into mining or other sectors outside finance plus with UK gov so weak I can't see any chance of delisting . They won't even take Ukrainian refugees, are you sure we are on the right side?!

If you really think the west is as bad or worse than Putin or other dictators you really have no idea what you are talking about.
The fact you can even sprout that stuff and don't have policeman at your door should show you how much better the west is

I'm going to ride this out. I agree there is no way to know for sure what will happen but investing in individual shares is more risky and you have to try and be sure about what you are doing or you'll lose a lot.
I don't have a huge portion of my portfolio here but will look to increase on any large dips like the other day.
The biggest danger I can see is the US banning them or taking their mines which I think is very unlikely to happen.
The steel made in Russia has a massive market both in Russia and China so as a company it will be fine.
For us investors the biggest danger I see is Evraz being delisted as likely we will be forced to sell our shares by our brokers who don't deal in the Russian exchange but will all the rubles washing around the Tory party that again to me is very unlikely.
So all in all I will be holding but would certainly advise careful thought esp if you have a very large holding here or will need the money within next year or so

The problem with taking them off SWIFT is that UK us and other countries and companies that have learnt to Russian companies can get their mone or payments.

Probably worth the pain though imo but would be good if idiot sunak wasn't trying to kill the UK at same time with all his tax rises

Yes the fear of so something happening is always worse for markets then it actually happening.
Could go anywhere in next few days but I would expect it to start moving up in next week or two.

Added some extra today as don't see this being sanctioned really, banks, maybe oil and gas but not steel esp as Russian set up will before for Russia, China etc use imo

The thing protecting this (as much as can be in a war) is Swiss neutrality I wouldn't think Russia want to mess about when we know where most of the dodgy money in the world ends up (outside London properties)

To me for each clipper share you will be given £2.30 worth of GXO shares.
So until the offer is formalised the movement in GXO share price makes no difference. In fact you want it to tank so you get more.
Once they say £2.30 of GXO shares at $X per share you can then worry about if stick goes down you are being overcharged but that is the risk you take in such cash plus share acquisitions, lest you sell out now

Theres a fair bit of confusion and also incorrect info here so I'll try to clarify.
If you held shares at the end of last Friday's trading session you are eligible for the RASP shares.

If you sold before the end of the day or bought Monday you are not.

Ex-dividend day is the day AFTER the shares count so you must hold shares at the end of trading the day before ex div date to be eligible.

Ignore recording date, this had nothing to do with you and is only the internal date that a company records who held what shares before ex-div session began.
This is often, but not always 2 days after ex-div date to give time for any purchase or sales to have worked through so the right people get the right dividend.

I hope this helps, I really recommend people researching though as this is very fundamental information and if you plan to but or sell because of a dividend you are going to mess up without this basic knowledge.

yep, TBH I was happy if it dropped more as could pick up on the cheap but indeed the sanctions are not too far reaching.
I assume if Russia invades the sanctions will be bigger and wider though so IMO I'm holding what I have in here but not adding more until I see if war escalates.

Even if there is an invasion I don't think it will effect us long term. Putin isn't looking for extra land and resources for his mates, all he wants is to put a puppet ruler in like he has in Belarus and Kazakhstan. I don't see him trying to take over companies or facilities.
Would likely be a good time to buy though if there is an Invasion but all about risk and reward. I only reckon there is about 10% chance of invasion though as don't think the juice is worth the squeeze for Putin, dead Russians in a war that you have started does not look good even with state controlled media
