Soletrader, try naked shorting as your reasoning, everyone assuming its Qube or some other cause when 9 times out of 10 it's the 4th dimension in the fu gazy market place - and it is something that the Market Makers can legitimately do to try and create liquidity.
It worked in the past for great profit to some @THG when everyone was kept in the dark and there was a "stiff upper lip approach" but it hasn't been working here for some time due to 2 Bids at a higher price and absolute plethora of information including a recent Trading update letting everyone see what is happening and understanding the business and its parts and the Sum of those Parts,
Read down to the "Quick Wins and Tough Losses" section in this CityAM article.
"Some believe the UK’s short-selling regime is open to abuse. Market makers have an exception to a rule forbidding so-called naked short selling, when you sell shares you do not own and are not borrowing from somebody. Proponents of this system say market makers need to be able to do this to provide liquidity in the market.
The UK government, in a consultation published in July, committed to keep the market maker exemption in place, continuing to allow naked shorting"
Unfortunately all the permitted, or turn a blind eye to, behaviours are causing several to seek pastures new and virtually no new listings or IPO's are belatedly now causing concern in the City of an ever decreasing circle. Less and less work means fewer staff are needed.
So bimble along at these levels we do with the MM's struggling for volume and commissions and when we and they openly know there were 2 sets of Private Equity Bids at a minimum of 170p. That's when the Golden share was still in place (now gone) and both submitted prior to knowledge of the Trading update at the start of June and all the expansion we know about.
Ultimately it's the numbers that will do the talking. Not too long to wait until the next instalment.
