Better late than never as they say. Another slug of great news. Not going to get too excited about 300BOPD from SY but the opportunity for more wells there is a game changer. The biggest win might well be the credibility that comes from success. For too many years it's been jam tomorrow, delay and disappointment. That's why so many investors have turned their backs on CASP. Perhaps they will see now that we have turned a corner and want back in? A couple of years ago back to back RNS's like this would have seen us well north of 10p and I can see us back there when people take this news in.

Nice to see somebody plugging Lloyds with a positive slant. There has to be value here? It's just frustrating waiting for it to happen. A mate of mine works in wealth management. He doesn't give much away but he's not been a fan of Lloyds over the years. "My clients want me to make them money not lose it" is all I get out of him on Lloyds. More Gov arm twisting this week on the cladding debacle and I suspect debt provision might drag on Q4 results? Perhaps when the Omicron/delta issues start to tale off we will see some stability on the SP in the 50's?

Hi Mr C. Yep, you are of course correct. It's kind of paddling rather than traditional off-shore. Not sure what the Caspian Sea situation is for any oil found in sovereign waters ? Local pricing and licences etc? Somebody on here might be able to throw some light on that. Be nice to see someone take a charter even if it just covers cost at this stage. Perhaps CASP could have some skin in the game if they find oil? I'm not a fan of the boat but, as a company asset, it would be nice to see it generating revenue rather than cost.

Credit where it's due. I wasn't expecting to see anything this side of Christmas. The 153 news is the highlight for me as anything other than oil production is jam tomorrow and I really thought this was looking like a duffer. On the same subject the news about additional shallow wells and horizontal work-overs looks like a step in the right direction. SY is clearly going to be later than expected but it sounds like there has been progress. The news on the deeps sounds more like clearing the decks on the licence requirements rather than any expectation of bountiful oil. That said I've still got my fingers crossed. Boat news conspicuous by it's absence but who wants to do offshore work with oil in the $70's? Thank you Clive. Positive news was much needed and greatly appreciated.

Victor, I thought the collective noun for politicians is "Thicket"..... or is that Scientists? 200,000 infections per day and doubling every 2 days we were told last Monday so we must be at around 1,600,000 infections per day by now? Not to mention Prof Ferguson's 5000 deaths per day! I would rather believe in Santa. On that subject a Happy Christmas and a profitable new year to all.

Yep. Big company's like BT hedge against things like interest rate. It's not complete mitigation, just damage limitation. 0.1% moving to 0.25% isn't a big deal but it signals more rises may be in the pipeline. On a more positive note high inflation can quickly make debt look an awful lot less painful in real terms. Probably one for the accountants among us?

Yesterday's press conference gave me the impression they were punting the booster program big time. Setting the NHS up to deliver 1M jabs a day is only any use if they have the arms to jab. I was waiting for Boris to say "We will fight it on the beeches, we will...... at one stage. CW was his usual self. Statistics and graphs that point us in the direction of Armageddon. The "if its half as severe and we have twice as many people" argument was an over simplification in my view. Illnesses have symptoms, and one of the more nasty symptoms of previous variants of Covid has been difficulty breathing and low oxygen levels in the blood stream. I'm assuming 99% of people have been hospitalised for this rather than not being able to taste their Cornflakes? This symptom seems to be absent from Omicron, or at least so mild it's not being flagged as a symptom in the reports I've seen so far. Given that we MIGHT see Omicron being very much less likely to result in hospitalisations. This has been the case in South Africa at least. So it's all OK then? Well no, we have a large population of people classified as CEV and even a mild illness can result in serious problems for this group. That's why common colds and flu kill thousands every winter. We lose about 2500 people a day from all causes of death in this country so if 20% of the population have Omicron then 125 people every day will test positive at time of death. If you extend that to "within 28 days of a positive test" then the numbers get even bigger. Actions have to be measured and appropriate in this crisis and we need to be careful with the way we present the data. Lies, damn lies and statistics comes to mind!

The fact that there was a non take-over condition to expire on the 10th says that BT were not seen as immune in this regard. I worked for Cadbury when Kraft took over and the government were making all sorts of noises that amounted to nothing. It's right to recognise the potential impact of the regulator but our french friend will lobby his way around that if he's determined to make this happen. Is this a done deal then? No, of course not but he hasn't bought 18% for his ISA. All IMO of course.

I'm sticking with it for the moment. Actually topped up yesterday. Perhaps too early and I may be waiting a while for a 10% or so return? Never say never with a government in panic but the suspension of Divi's looks unlikely at the moment even if further market instability is not. The divi thing turned out not to be necessary first time around and Lloyds have of course been releasing bad debt provision and core capital is still within an acceptable range. I would expect them to hold off releasing any more in Q4 in response to Omicron, perhaps even raise it which will impact the YE number and ultimately the divi but probably not to any great degree. All IMO but what do I know!!!

SFH, Too busy topping up on Lloyds... lol. I did double up on my BT about 3 weeks ago so I'm back to square 1 after yesterday. It's hard this share dealing nonsense! Still, Divi goes Ex on the 30th so at least we have something coming our way.

Theo, Absolutely right. They will also fight shy of headlines around hardship at this time of year and in the midst of a health crisis etc. The reality is that some lenders have already raised rates in anticipation of what they thought was inevitable. I saw a post saying there are always reasons to defer a decision on rates. I think that sentiment is spot on so I'm expecting another hold decision. Be nice to see 5.1% growth in the Lloyds SP though..... without brackets around it for once........ lol.

Transmissibility is high and it is spreading fast. Despite the doom and gloom the signs really are that this is milder than previous variants. Dr Coetzee, who probably knows more about Omicron than anyone else, was on Sky news last night saying that she thought the UK are over reacting to Omicron. She was surprisingly critical of the "alarmist" communications from Boris and the Gov. Javid is talking up 10,000 hospitalisations a day while South Africa have seen hospitalisations fall 29% since Omicron became the dominant variant there. Not sure I would sign up to seeing that in the UK but yesterday's total Omicron hospitalisation count in the UK was 10. I have seen no info on age, vulnerability, or underlying health conditions of the hospitalised or the person that died WITH Omicron so it's difficult to say how significant Omicron is in those cases. A potential problem here maybe absence from work in the new year. We are well used to transmissible Colds/Flu in this country and we have historically cracked on. We now face a highly transmissible virus with the potential for extended isolation for those who contract. Omicron has been around for a couple of weeks now so hiding behind "too soon to know" is wearing thin. We have a good idea what this will look like and should be preparing for that emerging picture. The potential problems here are that Boris needs this crisis, the press love a bit of doom and gloom, and the pharma industry are seeing another opportunity to make billions. The rest of the world is looking at the UK headlines and Government communications and I get the impression they see the UK as plague island. Consequently we are seeing the UK go on other countries red lists which could be damaging to our economy in the short/medium term. Omicron is what it is and we will have to deal with that, not what it could or may be. Vaccines and other medications are key tools in dealing with this so I think the booster roll out is sensible. The biggest risk may well turn out to be that we will turn this into something more damaging for all the wrong reasons. All IMO of course.

Yep. And with an inflation target of 2%, Houston we have a problem. The BOE learned years ago that inflation needs to be tackled early to prevent the need for over reaction. I guess that's been forgotten? I think they discuss, decide and dither today and tell us about it tomorrow. They were predicting inflation at 5% by spring, not November, so Omicron or not they need to address this now!
