Commonsense, nims, thanks for your analysis. I think that rising energy costs will also play a minor role here. Anyone who has worked in a RM building (and I have worked I and/or visited many will know just how inefficient our buildings are and how much RM waste.

mhudson, it will be a long time before RM is relieved of its six day USO obligation as this will require an Act of Parliament. It has taken over three years to get the pensions review through Parliament so even if they started tomorrow you would be looking at 2025.
I can't see it happening thought as our competitors deliver seven days a week.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Yesterday morning I would have said that 455p was cheap but I am now shocked.
I now check in every hour or so expecting to see it ascend to 500p+ but still it drops. Pure manipulation.

How low will they take it?

So, UBS value this stock at 440p and it drops 8% (in one day) to reflect this despite the fact that all the other valuations are over 530p? How does that work?

CBB, I'm fairly sure that there is a ceiling on driver's hours to plus the overtime multiplier is not much more than basic rate after the first ten hours? After our RM drivers hours have been used them surely they would be forced to use agency staff?

I'm not sure if this is a factor in this morning's drop but I have just received a message from the CWU explaining that the Average Holiday Pay back pay will be paid at the end of November. Obviously this will be a significant amount but I'm not sure if it had already been factored in?

I posted something very similar a little while ago, however it has to be said that Amazon are funded and managed very differently to RMG and therefore can adjust to market changes much more quickly.

Regarding "Royal Fail", it will be interesting to see if The Regulator fines RMG for the constant service delivery failures of letters?
I believe that our target is less than 50k letter failures per day and we have been exceeding this figure almost every day since April. On some days it has been as high as 700k!
Hopefully, The Regulator will show some common sense and see that RM have been working through some very difficult conditions? We shall see.

mhudson, you are quite correct in your assumption that automation is the way forward for RM, however it has historically been slow to react to market changes. Add some mandatory regulations that RM (and only RM) have to adhere to and any progress is going to be slow

Well done Dynamo. I'm not sure what is going on in my office but letter box collection mail and DSA are still low. Our CSS machines and LSMs are normally finished before 5am (whereas they used to finish at 6am) and although parcels are steady there doesn't appear to have been a massive increase. As I posted earlier, perhaps we are diverting parcels to another mail centre with parcels automation?

Tats88, just to clarify, Post Office employees were not awarded any "free" shares as the Post Office remains in Government ownership.
Royal Mail employees were awarded 600 shares initially in 2013 plus a further 81 free shares in October 2016.

Some are saying that "tracked is through the roof" in which case the results should be good and hopefully the SP will soar.
Personally, I'm not seeing this in my office. If anything it is much quieter now but then it is summer which is generally quieter anyway.
Results day will be interesting but good, bad or indifferent the SP will probably drop anyway as per usual.

Perhaps we should be asking questions about holy grail?

Today, I have been talking to an ex-colleague who now works in delivery land. It seems that RM have found a new way to reduce the USO and can blame Coronavirus for it. He said that since the pandemic started his delivery office have consistently had four or five walks that have been lapsed for one day a week and that last week they had a rural delivery that went six days without a delivery, although the specials were delivered separately, so perhaps Dynamo's large profits will come good on results day?
Could this be the way to avoid getting parliament to reduce the USO and just do it by stealth?

Dynamo, I really, really hope that you are correct with your prognosis of "huge volumes plus less staff means massive savings and bumper profits" and that this is reflected in the next financial results otherwise we are truly in the $hit€.

mhudson, that doesn't make sense. If tracked is "through the roof" why would they be "stripping hours everywhere"? Surely they would be increasing the hours?

mhudson, as this is a "sharing is caring" forum, perhaps you would like to share your expertise on the current state of affairs with regards to mail couriers, especially Royal Mail. We have several insightful RM workers that regularly share their views on here which others.

mhudson, of course I was joking with you... I actually sold my entire holding on the third of April 2020 when they bottomed at £1.24.
I am however planning to buy all of my stock back on the next £6.55 peak..... ;-)
