Redceo, you are obviously entitled to your opinion regarding both Pullinger and Thompson. My point was that their renumeration packages are not the current reason for debate?

Richmh, in response to your question, yes the employees that were in post in September 2013 received free shares from RM, just like the free stamps that we receive at Christmas.
If the shares were cashed in after five years then these were tax free less a small comission for Equiniti.
Some employees are still holding and indeed purchasing more shares and some have cashed in.
Other than that, I'm not entirely sure what the point of your post was?

Redceo, I have no qualms about the pay for the union leaders or indeed the CEO.
Terry Pullinger is a long serving union secretary. A skilled negotiator who is negotiating on behalf of over 100,000 employees so I would hope that his renumeration package reflects his position.
MrT is a CEO who took the position and knew what his renumeration would be.
My complaint is with the man who was awarded a 3.8% renumeration increase but told his employees that they were only worth 2%.

So, I was in a safety meeting this morning with some of our department heads, mail centre manager, person in charge, distribution manager, engineering manager etc... after AOB, there is some general conversation when the engineering manager mentions that MrT is pinning his hopes of future employment beyond this year's AGM by achieving his pledge (made last year) of 60% parcels automation by next week. The problem is that these new hubs require more parcels to achieve this target (parcels have dropped off since Easter) so the solution is to take the second class parcels from mail centres without parcel machines and give them to the hubs. The problem is that some mail centre managers are reluctant to do this in case senior management twigs that RM may be able to dispense with some of it's smaller mail centres.
I will be ordering popcorn......lol

AngerSharkz, I work in a mail centre and am not on deliveries. The mail centre staff already have early, late, night and weekend shifts so in not sure that there would be a need for change there because we cover 24/7.
The major changes would be for the delivery posties, of whom there are about 90,000 so make up around ? of the workforce and ¾ of CWU represented grades.
As I understand the situation, MrT is keen to push the "green" agenda and wants to completely eliminate the use of aircraft to transport mail across the UK. This means that all mail would have to be transported in the UK by road or rail both of which require the use of diesel at some point. Anyway, ignoring that minor point he wants "green".
The problem with not using aircraft is time, which used to be money but apparently not when you are "green".
So the mail will hit the network with a delay of up to three hours. This isn't an issue for mail centres as they are already 24/7, however if the mail that used to get to the 1250+ delivery offices at 6am doesn't arrive until 9am then it's not going to hit the delivery round until about 10am as there is always some prep to do and vehicles to check before the posties can hit the road. Obviously starting three hours later means finishing three hours later, or more depending upon your "flexible working"arrangement which could see delivery posties starting at 9am and not finishing until 7pm at peak times such as November ( Black Friday) and December (Christmas) when the weather is worse and the days are short therefore creating more potential safety issues not to mention screwing your current family arrangements up.
I'm sure that any delivery postie will be able to embellish but that's the potted version.

I have a question about short selling.
I realised that this sounds implausible and possibly illegal, but is it possible that the "buying" department of BlackRock are then allowing the "shorting" department of BlackRock to "borrow" these shares either with or without commission. This would then allow them to manipulate the short interest tracker which in turn could potentially sway the SP?

The CWU have just released a new interview with Terry Pullinger. It included a section on the manager's dispute plus a fairly lengthy section on the BoD proposals for changing the mail pipeline in the UK and how the BoD don't think that the business will be able to deliver the USO fully going forward with the current business model.
The proposal is that the posties are going to have to change their working practices in order to keep the USO viable despite the fact that it's been viable since before God was a boy.
Anyway, the upshot is that the CWU are preparing for a second ballot on the BoD change proposals very soon.
It's going to be a long summer.....

Correction.... Chancellor of the Exchequer is no longer up for grabs...

Ispy, the CWU ballot result is due to be announced on the 19th of July which is the day of the RMG AGM.

JB, Ispy, it is my belief that each office requires a "person in charge" in the building during working hours although this does not necessarily need to be a manager. The MPUs operate at night with a small OPG crew and a team leader who is an OPG with a leadership allowances and is effectively the "person in charge".
As for MrT..... He has already stated his disappointment in the managers and UNITE as he thinks that they have been offered a good deal. He didn't state that about the OPGs and the CWU thought as he stated that he expected a massive turnout and a massive yes vote however he still stands by his actions so no doubt that he is expecting industrial action.
What has he got to lose? If it all heads South and he is sacked then he will get a big payout and move on to his next position (Chancellor of the Exchequer is up for grabs). RM will get an interim CEO before appointing a new CEO and this could take us round to Christmas, however the savings would be massive as the pay negotiations still won't have been resolved. Perhaps that's the plan?

I would definitely agree with you on this point. My take is that the BoD think that they have a great opportunity to take on the CWU and the cost of living crisis will help them achieve this aim. As CEO, Simon Thompson is by far the most vocal of the BoD members and ultimately if it doesn't work then it's bye bye Simon, no doubt with a golden handshake.
The good news is that there are plenty of CEOs on the money-go-round.....lol

JB, it's true that an exact pay rise percentage request hasn't been released by the CWU, however the BoD have "gifted" a 2% increment to staff. I say "gifted" because this has been imposed and hasn't been negotiated. The BoD now consider the matter closed and are now asking the workforce to change it's longstanding Ts&C's in order to find future pay rises therefore the terms that we originally accepted when we joined RM will be worse going forward. In my opinion, this will be a much bigger issue compared to the pay issue and will almost certainly see a separate second ballot for IA.
The AGM is being held on the 19th of July (coinciding with the pay ballot results announcement) and I am in no doubt that the 13.3p dividend payment will be rubber stamped at a cost of £126m however those of a nervous disposition may wish to hope for a SP rise above their average soon so that they can bail out. If you're a LTH then it probably won't be an issue however what are the chances of a dividend payment in 2023 if it all goes Pete Tong?
