Thompson announced on Workplace today that he will be holding a series of six Q&A sessions. One for each of the major changes that the company wishes to enforce.
This will probably be;
Absence Policy
Allowances
Annualised Hours
Later Start Times
Sunday Attendance
Shift Pattern Changes
He reckons that this will take around a month to complete and compile the outputs.
Some of my questions will be;
"How much revenue are each of these proposed changes expected to generate?"
"What is the minimum revenue that RM UK needs to generate to be secure?"
"What happens if these proposed changes are complied with but they still fail to deliver the required revenue?"
And lastly
"Can we have a guarantee that any future profits are split equally between the employees, shareholders and towards transformation of the business?"
I can almost guarantee that the answer to the last question will be "no".

Exactly. I had expected letter volumes to be down 15% and parcels by around 5% and that was based upon what I could see in my mail centre.
I have no idea where the "£1m down per day" figure has come from but I would like to know when it all started and where it's all gone because it's certainly not been spent in my mail centre either on the building, the fleet or the staff.

AngerSharkz, I believe that Scamp posted that "there are thousands out of work just in my one little town".
I'm not sure which part of the UK Scamp lives in but it's not anywhere near where I live.
Perhaps Royal Mail will employ these unfortunates that are out of work, transport them around the country and get them accommodation as well?

Time2Kill, I have been informed that the new uniform rollout has been slowed down to save cost.
In the meantime, I have to wear my DPD "away kit" which was issued as a trial last year. I requested the new allocation back in January but so far......zip

AngerSharkz, where are all these temporary workers?
Most of the seasonal European workers can't get work permits due to Brexit and those that can have already secured jobs. Royal Mail is no longer pays premium rates for temporary workers. My mail centre has been advertising for cleaning staff and catering staff since the beginning of the year without success. We couldn't get enough temporary workers for Christmas pressure last year and that is usually over subscribed by three times!

Dismissal for industrial action
You can’t be dismissed for industrial action if:
it’s called as a result of a properly organised ballot
it’s about a trade dispute between workers and their employer (eg about your terms and conditions)
a detailed notice about the industrial action (which is legally required) has been given to the employer at least 7 days before it begins
You can claim unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal if you’re dismissed for taking industrial action at any time within the 12 weeks after the action began.

After 12 weeks, you can be dismissed if you take industrial action and your employer has tried to settle the dispute. For example, your employer may bring in advisers from Acas to help find a solution.

When you may be dismissed
You could be dismissed for taking part in industrial action if:
the union hasn’t held a properly organised ballot
the union hasn’t given the employer the correct notice for balloting members or taking action
the union hasn’t called its members to take action because they think the dispute is settled or action is called by someone who doesn’t have the authority to do so
it’s in support of workers taking action against another employer (otherwise known as ‘sympathy’ or ‘secondary’ action)
it’s in support of only employing union members (otherwise known as a ‘closed shop’)
it breaks any other parts of industrial action law
If you take part in industrial action that breaks the regulations and you’re dismissed, you can’t usually claim unfair dismissal if all employees taking part are dismissed as well.

Scamp, are you suggesting that "tens of thousands" of striking CWU members would be dismissed for taking industrial action and that this would be perfectly legal?

That's true. Unfortunately instead of holding his hands up and admitting that he misjudged the situation or saying that Mick Jeavons hadn't been keeping him in the loop, he is effectively blaming the workforce for the ineptitude of himself and the board.
It's funny how the practices of the workforce were good enough to post record profits during the pandemic but all of a sudden they're not good enough?
I know that Redceo thinks of Terry Pullinger as a second hand car salesman (Boycie) but equally that makes Thompson and Jeavons look like Del and Rodney.
Perhaps next year they will be millionaires?

AngerSharkz, didn't Thompson mean that we were making £1m less per day than 2021 Q1 as opposed to being £1m under per day?
The difference could be -£365m or +£51m at the end of Q4.

This is a post for all of the investors and shareholders who are moaning about the CWU and "the lazy militant posties".
You should be taking a leaf out of Teslo's book and lapping this stock up by enjoying the excellent price fluctuations. Surely this has got to be the gift that keeps on giving?
I really don't understand what difference it makes as long as you are receiving a decent dividend payment and the cash keeps rolling in. If you think that GLS will be sold off as a separate entity then that's also good as you will probably make a tidy sum there or will receive GLS shares and still receive a decent dividend. If you think that it's all going to go pear shaped then sell up.
The IA problems really are a sideshow and distraction from the objective of trading but they do provide excellent opportunities.

How did you get to that conclusion? Shares can only be floated once and as far as I know, the UK Government profited from the flotation.
