AngerSharkz, a progressive dividend would indicate that the 2023 dividend will be at least 13.3p so GLS needs to be spun off before RM UK sicks up all the profit? If RM UK is losing £1m per day then GLS needs to be making £1.5m a day in order for the group profits to break even.

AngerSharkz, don't forget to add the £126m for next month's dividend payout to the £201bn share buyback scheme and the £200m dividend payment from January.
I make that £527m paid out in 2022. Hopefully GLS can keep this level of dividend payment up in 2023?

Tyga, you need to look at your pension "in a nutshell" booklet. You can take your NRA60 from 55 years of age but there is a reduction of 5% per annum on the quoted figures. I'm not sure about the NRA65 pension but you can give RMPP a call to get a quote.
The retirement age was abolished under the 2010 Equality Act.

In my opinion, Thompson is absolutely going to take on the union and the CWU represented grades, after all he now has nothing to lose. I believe that he has orchestrated this situation from the outset because he knows that many of the non staff costs involved in running RM UK are already fixed plus the number of delivery staff required to comply with USO regulations are also fixed therefore the only avenue available is to attack the current Ts&Cs of the workforce.
Anyhoo, when Thompson has succeeded in driving wage costs down to the same level as our competitors (and then departed on a nice fat GLS bonus) we can all expect our parcels to receive the same level of customer service as our competitors currently offer so we can all get used to searching in the wheely bin/hedge/next door neighbours garden for our parcels....lol

No, that's not how it works, nor is it legal.
As things stand there are four days of industrial action planned. Any additional industrial action has to be communicated via the union to the employer and will achieve legal compliance provided that a weeks notice is given.
Obviously if only 10% of employees were physically supporting industrial action after the initial four days then that would be counter productive and the union would pull the plug to pursue different options however with two legally successful ballots, (both of which have shown that over 60% of the entire Royal Mail workforce including managers, non CWU employees and the BoD) completed then I would think that the situation would hold firm at least in the short term.

AngerSharkz, I believe that the percentage rules only relate to the ballot itself. A minimum of 50% turnout with a majority in favour.

Ispy, I totally agree that it's going to take more time. The only realistic option will be smaller rounds and more delivery staff? Quart in a pint pot and all that....

Strange but true.....
My local Evri delivery driver and also my daughter's boyfriend who is also an Evri delivery driver have been telling me of a huge percentage increase in traffic over the last two weeks. Whereas they usually have around 150 items, this has risen to over 240 items most days. They have also been instructed that their mail will now not be ready to go out of the depot until after 10am as a result.
Lastly, there are plans afoot for Evri to drop their delivery payments from £1 per item to 60p.
I see a storm brewing.....

I still find it bizarre that our highly skilled BoD (let's face it, none of them are there by ticking the wrong boxes or by being under qualified) are effectively asking the workforce to fund their own pay rise by giving up hard fought for terms and conditions instead of coming up with innovative ideas and solutions to raise the profitability of Royal Mail.
Isn't this what our illustrious leaders are paid to do?

If that statement is true (and I tend to agree) then why oh why is Thompson insisting that the network is changed so that buyers can purchase up until 23:59 for next day delivery? Surely if something is required that urgently then they would pay a little more and purchase locally? If it's something that can't be purchased locally then the buyer is going to have to learn the value of patience?
Unfortunately we live in a world of instant gratification.

I can't speak for the whole country but there are just over forty posties in my local delivery office. Just under 60% are over 50 and around 40% are over 55 and therefore eligible to take their NRA60 pension (which some are doing anyway).
Back in the day, this group of workers were a conscientious bunch however this has changed over the last three years. If industrial action fails to bring management back to the negotiation table and changes are brought in by executive action, these workers would probably just go with the new work plan in the knowledge that senior management haven't done their homework very well. Effectively they would work as directed and without question even if they knew that the work plan was doomed to fail.
The majority of the younger element of this workforce are quite prepared to go and work for a local supermarket should their new work hours not fit into their personal lives.
A quick scan of RM Workplace shows that we have quite a few posties who are far too qualified to be "glorified paper boys" but want a stress free job that pays the bills and I suspect that if working as a glorified paper boy becomes unattractive then they will happily move on to the next best stress free job, especially during an employment crisis.
The underlying issue here is that RM UK could end up with a very transient workforce as we had in the 70s and 80s. This is not beneficial in the long term however that's not going to bother any of the BoD as they will be long gone by then as hopefully will most of the long term shareholders.

Redceo, the younger generation tend to want everything asap if not sooner so I suspect that the situation will only escalate. Having a premium rate service would be the way forward if it can be competitive or even a subscription service such as Prime?

Redceo, DerekRocholl, I suspect that many who order in the morning of day one will wish to be using the purchase by lunchtime on day two however the rationale from the RM perspective was that buyers could purchase from certain retailers up until 10pm in order to guarantee delivery "next day" which technically could be up until 23:59:59hrs.
I'm not sure how this is any better than a model of "purchase by 5pm for next day delivery before 5pm"?

Parcelforce workers have already received notification that GLS are now using a different UK courier.

Redceo,yes he is a decent lad of twenty four doing a decent days work. Previously he worked for the Highways Agency but the hours meant that he didn't get to see his young son as much as he would have liked. He has also said that he wouldn't consider working for RM as he wants to be self employed and control his own future.

teslo, honkey, regarding the Evri delivery driver, I'm not sure exactly how his accountant has him registered for tax purposes but I do know that he keeps every receipt going. Presumably he gets tax relief on fuel and can offset running costs such as servicing and maintenance plus depreciation on his vehicle?
The down side is as pointed out earlier in that there is no annual leave or sick pay and I'm unclear on the arrangement for this eventuality.
His round is quite good and includes several large blocks of retirement flats which have staffed entrances and it is common for him to have several deliveries for the same block of retirement flats which are taken in at the entrance which saves him time plus if he has ten parcels then that's £10 for effectively one drop point.
Redceo, yes he does tend to work six days a week and usually eight hours a day. He leaves the house at 7am and is normally home by 4pm.
