PRESS RELEASE
From the Desk of Pier Stammer, Interim‑Acting‑Deputy‑Assistant Executive of Strategic Calamities
SCGL Forum Communications Division
FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION TO ALL LONG‑SUFFERING HOLDERS
In light of the recent and entirely avoidable Peter Mandelson debacle — which, for legal reasons, I must describe only as “an incident of enthusiastic miscommunication, excessive enthusiasm, and insufficient Googling” — I, Pier Stammer, am stepping forward to provide clarity, reassurance, and the illusion of leadership.
Official Statement
Following yesterday’s events, in which our forum briefly became a cross between Yes, Minister and a slow‑motion car crash, I want to confirm the following:
At no point did SCGL formally appoint Peter Mandelson as a strategic advisor, honorary mascot, or patron saint of “Project Turnaround”.
Any such claims were the result of a rogue poster, a misinterpreted rumour, and a level of optimism not seen since the Great RNS of 2021.
Lord Mandelson has not, to our knowledge, expressed interest in joining SCGL, though he has reportedly expressed interest in “finding out who keeps emailing him about graphite futures”.
The forum’s temporary meltdown was entirely predictable, and in many ways a proud continuation of our long tradition of overreacting to anything with a pulse, a title, or a LinkedIn profile.
Internal Review
A full investigation is underway, led by our Head of Crisis Management, who unfortunately resigned halfway through reading the thread.
We have therefore appointed a new Head of Crisis Management, who has already requested annual leave.
Early findings indicate:
The rumour originated from a post beginning with the phrase “Lads, you won’t believe this…”, which historically has a 0% accuracy rate.
Several members immediately began calculating the share price at 40p, 80p, and “£1 if he brings a mate”.
One poster attempted to draft a welcome speech, another tried to short the rumour, and a third insisted Mandelson was already in the Telegram group under a pseudonym.
Next Steps
To prevent future chaos, SCGL will be implementing the following measures:
A mandatory cooling‑off period before reacting to any rumour involving politicians, celebrities, or anyone with a Wikipedia page.
A new verification protocol, requiring at least two sources, one of which must be sober.
A forum-wide reminder that “my mate knows someone” is not due diligence.
Closing Remarks
On behalf of the SCGL Communications Division, I want to thank all shareholders for their patience, resilience, and ability to turn even the mildest misunderstanding into a full‑scale operatic drama.
We remain committed to transparency, stability, and only moderate levels of chaos going forward.
Signed,
Pier Stammer
Interim‑Acting‑Deputy‑Assistant Executive of Strategic Calamities
