We now only buy I.Ts as well, with 98% of our portfolio ITs.
FFWD is a very large holding 7-8 times more than most of our other holdings. Something we do not really approve of. A balanced portfolio should be the aim.
M and G, if my memory serves me right, were the biggest fund managers 40-50 odd yrs ago.
We also bought warrants in investment trusts which paid off handsomely, we were paying around 2-4p for one companies warrant that finished up around a £ as the share put on 96-98p
Shortly after they more or less stopped issuing warrants. Cannot think of the name of the issuer but it started with P and we had paper warrants 10 inches thick.
The sectors we buy in to are ITs that specialise in small, AIM VCTs, Far East and emerging markets as a rule.
We also sold covered options which gave us a monthly income . Wife does not like them but with the monet we make from FFWD (here's hoping) we may sell the odd one again.
We do not buy VCTs at the start or ITs as they usually drop below NAV. However what suits one does not suit someone else. We would never criticises others methods.
Now we are to old to study so much and generally just buy anything that is very low in price, oversold (sectors particularly ) or if it has a big NAV discount.
Hopefully FFWD will be our last big payday, but always ready for surprises. 110p is our initial target.
We had a rule if it drops 10% get out, 99% of the time it pays off.
We did not with FFWD as everyone was expecting "good news in a RNS" "in the next two weeks" so we kept buying as it dropped.
Hopefully some of the investors on here will make a pretty penny eventually.
We all have different ideas and so long as they work then they are ok.
Buy when the blood is running down the gutter and sell when everyone is buying at the top generally pays off.
Reading everyone's thoughts sometimes opens up other avenues. The good info on the FFWD posts kept us going, something we are very appreciative of. Just wish they would not spend so much time having a go at each other though.
We have always attracted weird looks on our ideas, but we are still in the game after 50 years while others have long gone.
