Well it's a bit of a pain MBW, and the links and quotes (in italics originally) don't remain intact, but just for you:

Thinking about this a bit more from the LAC/Ganfeng/Thacker Pass perspective.
We know that LAC collaborated with Ganfeng Lithium to develop and test process flowsheet for their 2018 30ktpa + 30ktpa PFS and that according to the sedar Aug 23 2018 22:46:33 ET announcement Ganfeng and LAC have a Strategic Collaboration Agreement. Although the terms of the agreement expressly do not apply to the Thacker Pass project, it does seem quite likely that LAC has involvement in the Sonora project behind the scenes, according to the terms of the agreement.
With this in mind, it's interesting to note that the recent announcement by LAC that the increase from 30ktpa to 40ktpa is a result of optimisations & efficiencies: The increased target capacity reflects optimizations to the mine plan and leaching efficiencies, maintaining the same proposed 3,000 tonnes per day (“tpd”) sulfuric acid plant and water usage
We know that Ganfeng is reviewing a lithium plant production rate above the previously planned 17,500 tonnes per year.
For a similar mine footprint and water usage to the Sonora 17.5/35ktpa a similar optimisation & efficiencies as applied to LAC, and shared with Ganfeng through the SCA (assuming Ganfeng aren't actually still working directly behind the scenes on the Thacker Pass project), would result in Sonora production rates of 23/47ktpa - perhaps rounded up to 25/50ktpa.
Additionally as previously discussed in this thread the additional 500 hectares of land at the eastern end of the plant site location to allow for future plant expansions indicates they are considering expansions beyond this, perhaps simultaneously mining from the South pit which this additional land is likely adjacent to, to reduce mining costs and improve project economics.
KDNC has claim over 30% of this area of the pit via its Mexilit Joint Venture agreement.

It's interesting to note that the average grade of Sonora measured + indicated resources using a cutoff of 1,000ppm (0.1% Li) is 3,250ppm, whereas the October 2021 updated Thacker Pass equivalent measured + indicated using a cutoff of 1,334ppm is 2,231ppm
On a mineral reserve basis, using 1,500ppm cutoff, the Sonora average grade in the proven category is 3,905ppm whereas the Thacker Pass proven reserves average using 2,500ppm cutoff is 3,308ppm
I think it might be becoming clearer, to me at least, why Ganfeng decided to focus on Sonora.
