Red Tide coming in the Gulf of Mexico25 Jun 2020 22:55
A 'perfect storm' is brewing. The same weather pattern behind the record heat in the Arctic Circle is driving Sahara Sand to the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is forecast to have a significant Hurricane Season. The Sand brings Iron and the Hurricane rains bring fertiliser (mainly phosphates?) and animal waste down the river systems into the Gulf. Then a major algae bloom occurs, which consumes the dissolved oxygen in the water. Then the fish, turtles, dolphins and sharks suffocate - the area effected is called the dead zone.
The 'dead zone' this year is going to be one of the worst in living memory.
