Unfortunately all our food could end up glowing in the dark thanks to plant RNA viruses which can sometimes carry pieces of DNA called transposons from one plant to another as they infect different hosts. Transposons are mobile genetic elements that can copy and paste themselves into new locations in the genome. So if a virus picks up a transposon from one plant, it may deliver it into the genome of another plant it infects.

What could go wrong?
