There are good reasons to hate Trump if you are an American - just take this week's incident at Arlington Cemetery as an example.

If you are British, maybe his threats to up end NATO might be of concern? Or his isolationist economic policies that will hamper UK / US trade just when we need it most, thanks to Brexit? Or his cosying up to Autocrats? Or his trade policies that will reignite inflation? What about his lack of interest in Ukraine, which will embolden Russia and could lead to an expansion of war into Northern European countries like Latvia and Estonia? Or his unpredictable foreign policy which will hamper the so called 'special relationship'? Or the abandoning of policies to try and limit the effects of climate change?

It is going to be costing around 10% of GDP to look after the wounded in Ruzzia and real GDP will shrink as soon as the war economy collapses. With their existing demographic problems made worse by the war, Ruzzia is in deep trouble. And Putin knows just how bad the demographic problem is which is why he started the war whilst he still had the manpower available to fight. Putin needs control of the Suwałki Gap which is why he needs a subservient Ukraine.

Two of the tax dodges that annoy me are:

1 - intellectual property license fees: Some companies like Starbucks are allowed to pay an offshore company [in a tax free jurisdiction] a percent of their turnover in licensing fees to use the name, logo, store design etc. In a low margin business the fee is set high enough to run the UK business at a book loss for UK tax purposes;

2 - a similar dodge is when company wants to start UK branches [say a coffee franchise]. Instead of investing here they open a UK subsidiary and lend that subsidiary the money required for the investment and them pay that offshore lender [themselves] in a tax free jurisdiction.

So they get to run profitable UK businesses but pay no tax on profits. HMRC / GOV tolerate this as they are efficient collectors of employment taxes and VAT. It creates a very unfair playing field for any 'mom n pop' business trying to start out.
