Perhaps a professor of English could explain what the phrase "Standard Variable" means ?
My suggestion:- Standard means "This is the Normal" Variable means "it can be higher or lower "?

Let us fix Standard at 40 (1) Let Variable be Plus or Minus 1 Therefore SVT equals 39 up to 41
(2) Let Varaible be Plus or Minus 2 Therefore SVT e

If we could in some way replicate the life of two great sailors, Admiral lord Nelson and Captain Bligh, apparently an extyremely disciplined ship's captain in the Royal Navy, but also a first class navigator and seaman, both of whom kept their eye on the horizon and beyond. We may help ourselves and others to see that we have not only supported a good decent company with some of our hard earned cash but also with our well considered views, but being human we do tend sometimes to err. Some reservations from Dactions about Westek, though I felt the opposite, Dar not being well, and our old friend Able analysing the methodology about projects. Perhaps if we include Truro Trader we may find that overall we are happy with Westek joining the group, taking on board Dactions observations. They may, with the UAE order have sufficient work on hand for now, but let's hope their input into Cross-Sales will show through. I see it as another but different production line for us ! I know of a company that makes computer boards into which they fit Intel or AMD CPUs to suit customers expressed requirements. They generally make two versions, one for normal environmental situations, and one known as "RUGGED" these are meant to withstand many types of harsh environments and are tested to do so. It includes a fairly long time element. I suppose the Rugged servers and accessories built by Westek are also designed to be long lasting in harsh environments. Perhaps they also consult with customers as to their preferences in CPUs, GPUs and solid state gear you mention. ? ----- Yours, Max.

Rugged systems order worth c.£0.75m from UAE

TP Group (AIM:TPG), the specialist services and engineering group, is pleased to announce an order from a customer in the United Arab Emirates worth c.£0.75m. This is the first order of note received by Westek Technology Ltd ("Westek") since its acquisition by the Group which was announced on 5 November 2018.

Under this order, more than 50 rugged servers and data storage systems will be built at the Westek facility in Wiltshire for delivery in 2019.

Question, please. They are going to build these in Wiltshire, but they can use the equipment to which you refer can't they ? I suppose they may already be using this type of equipment, I did wonder what they might be used for in UAE ?

Have just been re-reading the RNS about the Acquisition of Westek. I know there is also a RNS about the sale of 50 rugged servers in the UAE, which was gratifying and proving that it was a good move. Returning to the acquity RNS, there is a strong feeling coming through that this is an area that may well have been neglected in times past and the need for such equipment should have been part of the development in the marine area. I hope I am not being unduly pessimistic here, but are our Defence requirements for such gear at last moving into the production mode ? Of course, all such items can be expensive but expenses should be balanced against needs. Any thoughts on this topic ? ----- Yours, Max.

Reading the past history of the company throughr RNSs, between lying down sessions, I wondered about all the significant initiatives involving our recently joined companies. We seemed to have morphasised into another form of MI5/6. I can't however, find a note about working with SAAB for NATO. Any clues ?? Everyone using banks will have had concerns about the safety of their funds. As Dar says, banks closing down are very rare events, even in politically stressful times. Able, you must know that people were warned NOT to purchase properties in places like Cyprus. Ambassador Parks spech including references to the Gloucester Regiment and its stirring defence, many of the regiments soldiers were indeed Gloucester men, but there were also men from other regiments and other parts of the country involved in that action, led by the Gloucesters. I am very pleased to be able to read, understand and reflect upon the well-considered views presented on this board now and previously. I would hope that discussions at the BoD is just as fervent and seeking the best way forward for the company.
(1) To acquire or not. " What about our promises about that method of incresing the strength and profitability of the company" ? Should we care about the CBI ? Should we consult our Nomad ? Should we consult with our contacts at the MOD ? What companies have we looked at and rejected as new members of the company ? Are our banking facilities sound and going to remain sound after whatever the result of Brexi ?

(2) Our last three orders were in, in fact, export orders. Can we get government support, and funding, in oprder to increase our export drive ? There must be other countries in the Middle East considering the output from Polaris and Westek.
