Royal Mail employs 115,000 postal workers as frontline workers. In August, the CWU called for strikes. It announced this week that it would continue industrial action for 19 more days over the next two-months.

The dispute centers around pay. The dispute has resulted in a 2 percent pay increase for employees.

How could RMG have job losses when they're struggling to cope with workload at the moment?
1. Srrip all / or all large parcels out of the network and give them to Parcel force which would become the UK arm of GLS. Very possibly using white van man as a stop gap.
2. Get the USO reduced from 6 days to 4 days, this would need Parliamentary approval but I'm sure mad Lizzie would be up for it. Delivering less mail to a growing number of addressees becomes more economical if you do it on a reduced number of days.
This is what the CWU are are afraid of, and facilitating at the same time.

At last…if you can see it be assured those that need to can see it…uso if needed would be rushed through…believe me….the government would not want it….all parcels as I have said before stripped…even given to self employed drivers who are under royal mails banner…then what’s left to the postie…who would be given the run around with just letters…and guess what…you don’t need half of them for that…there will be even more being looked at…believe me..:-)

You must be the thickest investors out. Fancy investing in a company , you know nothing about, or the rules for running it. Still no answer about how you make these redundancies , just 24/7 juvenile waffle.

This get funnier and funnier…so let’s think out of the box…the company’s in a bad way…let’s say admin….the government won’t want it back…the quickest easiest way to get things on track is to change the uso….and iam sure that would be done quicker than a postie can open a letterbox without catching his/her fingers…then guess what….no need for a lot of posties,vans,management…in fact a culling….how’s that…or is that not cricket.

ok, so as a RM employee (low ranking) I can tell you its not about pay , its about conditions. I dont like striking the company like any large company will take all our hard won terms and conditions away if it suits them to do so.

The companys sick pay system is open to abuse. But thats becacause its not managed as it should be.

The CWU rep system could be altered with out too much push back from the rank and file, .

Give us 7% , cut back the sick pay from 6 months full pay to say , 3 months full pay then three months half pay

Offer some shares as a lump sum

Revisit everything in, say, 12 months

Or take on a embittered workforce in the run up to Christmas !

Or start looking for a new employment …as you won’t be in a union after losing your job…:-)

Maximas1 - The question you have to ask is why are the CWU refusing to go to ACAS? What have they got to hide? If they want it resolving then get it resolved?

This is an easy one,anyone with half a brain knows what the out come would be,inc the cwu.
Can you imagine acas saying to the cwu your in the wrong,how bad would that look for them.

Well one thing is for sure - anyone running a business reliant on deliveries will have used an alternative parcel delivery provider today - I wonder how many will return to using RMG?

I have mentioned several times about having a plan…well last week r/m mentioned ACAS..I suggested it was another tick in the box of to do things to get where they want to be.
Now it does look like the union have dismissed the suggestion of going to ACAS.
In my opinion the fact that nnnn 19 strikes have been put forward….could it yet be another epic fail of the union…imagine r/m at some point,but not just yet…so as to push the strikes as further down the line as possible …so that k can finalise his finer details if/when he gets the nod…and all ducks are aligned…then go to court claiming that all avenues have not been exhausted…thus strikes cancelled,and probably if r/m times it correctly…till after Xmas…
By this time k and r/m should be ready to go into kill mode..just a thought:-)

Is that all 19 days? Nobody will notice -I regularly go 3 weeks without a letter.,..and all the parcels Will go to the other carriers. After this farce all that will be left is GLS and a lpiecework leaflet taker letter operation

You will start seeing r/m uniforms on people desperate for cloths all over the world once the posties are few and far between…I hope there given away to good causes:-)

So how are they going to cover off the cost of these extra hours? I get that they want to stiff the posties for "X" of pounds per week. I get that they will try to claw back money on sickness and overtime. But this will not cover half of what i've mentioned.
Plus, the service will be worse than now. Something that the shareholders outside of RMG clearly do not care about.

Iam expecting no divi next year,Iam hoping they continue to the end regardless,then if/when it’s taken over those not wanting to work to the new rules get sacked…easy choice..job or no job…start with a clean slate…you don’t follow instructions…gross misconduct and out the door…seen it so many times…all those mouthing off soon keep quiet and look after themselves..I now have no sympathy what so ever with the workers…I hope they strike,I hope the share price is pushed lower for my own gain…I hope k gets the nod…I hope he takes over…
In essence I carnt lose…if k gets the knock back and posties win…I win…if he buys the company I also win…
But I gain stock at a nice low price…and it will recover…

Oh dear. Let me give you an example of where this starts to go wrong.
On any given day we will have 48 (ish) staff in my office.
How many hours do you think are given to RMG by staff coming in early and not taking meal breaks?
We won't even mention what happens on delivery.
The very best-case scenario would be 30 minutes per person, on average. 24 hours per day. 144 hours per week.
Now if my office want to take back those hours, we can. If every delivery office does the same, do you know how much that will cost RMG?
I'll let you do the mathematics. You can borrow my abacus from the 1970's if you like.

Please read my previous posts…I don’t think there bothered….there comes a point when it’s a no brainier to buy…nothing goes up for ever…just like nothing goes down for ever…correct…once the price goes hopefully to daft levels buy and put away long term…
