It’s not funny one bit 1 person losing there jobs due to poor unions and reps…never mind thousands…what I find striking(pardon the pun)is the fact Royal Mail (ids) actually told you several times what they were going to do….and the union played bluff with peoples jobs…no matter what you think this could have been avoided.
But you no what…even now the union will take you down further that dead end street…why..because that’s all they can do…they carnt now save face…and the poor worker will take the can…NOT THE UNION…you have been warned again that striking will have yet more consequences…you must do what you feel is right…but don’t winge when it goes tits up…which it will…the reason…you went on strike and that gave them all the aces…your left with jokers.

Oh dear Maximus, you are coming over as a bitter investor who knows that their investment is currently under water and Is lashing out at the employees.
If you do some analysis you will find that Thompson's plan is quite nicely on track (something that you were crowing about not so long ago) and the investors are unfortunately collateral damage.
Perhaps you should get in line with the other investors hoping that a certain Czech billionaire will spare your blushes soon?
FYI, I perused some job sites this morning. I was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of work available for a safety rep with NEBOSH training and experience with salaries in excess of my current RM wage......

It’s about costs…and what it costs…there not bothered who goes…it’s all about streamlining and getting the most work for less dollar….those on the sick are a neg draw on the company…

If you are right Maximus and the sick notes are the ones who get made redundant what about the hard working ones who want to go . If you read RM statement there are saying they don’t expect any compulsory redundancy’s it will all be voluntary in which case you would be wrong

Could well be….but I would expect those to be offered first…or sacked via disciplinary
Why would you let go workers when there’s dead would costing you ££ for doing nothing..life is hard…company’s don’t care…the best and easiest cost cutting with little impact first

Sick will be let go first probably…a very easy cost saving exercise without loosing working staff…

You're assuming it's the same posties off sick each year, next year it could be an entirely different set of posties off sick.

I can guarantee they will no who takes the ****…those that then keep going sick will be deemed not fit to do the job…disciplinary procedure then gone.

Beetroot juice just a reply from your 9.54 post when I put 14000 pounds down for VR that was a rough guide by my manager apparently he said RM would pay the minimum amount they can for redundancy in his opinion which according to him is 1 week wages for every year you worked and after the age of 41 you get 1 and half weeks wages so in my case it would be 25 and a half weeks wage’s has I would have done 17 years in February plus 12 weeks notice but RM might require you to work your 12 week notice. I started at RM when I was 42 so that’s why I would get 1 and half weeks for every year I worked. All in my managers opinion so don’t shoot the messenger. It would be interesting to hear from other postman if their manager know what the minimum payment is

You’ll normally be entitled to statutory redundancy pay if you’re an employee and you’ve been working for your current employer for 2 years or more.

You’ll get:

half a week’s pay for each full year you were under 22
one week’s pay for each full year you were 22 or older, but under 41
one and half week’s pay for each full year you were 41 or older
Length of service is capped at 20 years.

Your weekly pay is the average you earned per week over the 12 weeks before the day you got your redundancy notice.

Given most redundancies will be VR what's the betting anybody on a nice little earner at RM will be last in the queue for VR? The leavers will be the experienced ones nearing retirement and the hard workers who know they can earn similar or better elsewhere.

Be amazed if they let the near retirement age go…this has just happened where my wife works…they refused a lot…low lying fruit first,or the cheapest way…then sack as many as they can through procedure of poor work,time keeping,sickness ect ect…they will be ruthless
