There is a 90 day state of emergency in Gambia and the foreign office has advised against all but essential travel there due to political unrest and the possibility of military intervention. TC have approx 1000 holiday makers there whom they are returning home via additional flights over the next 48 hours. TC also have approx 2500 flight only customers there whom they are contacting to offer the earliest possible flight availability to return to the UK. Gambia is not a big market as such for TC but nevertheless it is now one less holiday destination for customers and the cost to TC of the additional flights etc is something they could have done without.!! Interesting to see how the SP will be affected by this.

TCG can then continue using the Co-op brand name until November 2018 so yes I can see some worth from the deal considering the points you have made but after they lose the Co-op brand , will there be a big surplus of duplicate stores?

So TCG have taken up their option and are buying the co-ops 30% stake in their joint venture and will take full control of the co-op travel branded retail stores at a cost of £50 million!! Not sure if this is good or bad? I think this is why On the beach have had a surge in sp today! On the beach being purely internet based as we all know. Just not sure what benefit TCG will gain from this as TCG stores generally operate in the same towns and cities as Co-op branded stores.

Look at the way the On The Beach sp is rocketing! I know they are purely internet based and therefore have less overheads but they must be doing something right and better than what TCG are doing!! They certainly seem to be going places!! ( excuse the pun ).

Thought you had already sold out and moved to the Bahamas with your gains Harry! Sorry Harry it's my mind , TCG has made me delusional. Think you will be ok next week though if you are going on 73. But ponder first before you sell because things could just be getting better. You have waited this long and we may well be turning that corner onto a sunnier road which ( imo ) could lead us to 200 within the next 12--18 months. I have been in a long time and seen some good times which have sadly dissipated over the last few years. I have seen wild swings both ways but I have not been this optimistic about the sp for a long time. Things just feel “right” at the moment for a surge in the sp. If you do go then i hope you find good luck elsewhere but if you stay then I think the luck will come to you.

I suspect ( purely my opinion ) that next Month's results are going to be disappointing. There are just too many negatives compounding each other. As regards a dividend , TCG would be better off not paying one ( I believe it is 50/50 whether they will or won't ) and using any “spare" money to pay off part of their huge debt and cement a better foundation in going forward into the medium/long term.

I clearly remember David Cameron's comments regarding TCs collapse and he definately used his influence in the refinancing of the company which saved them from going under. I am not a Tory but I remember thinking at the time “ thank goodness he was the PM" at that point in TCs history. If he had not been PM I am not sure TC would have survived. Thanks for that Dave!

Harry , i don't know if you need to recover your stake in TCG urgently or if it is purely frustration in its erratic behaviour that leads you to want to sell and get rid but IMO this share will substantially increase if only you can hang in there. It's just a matter of time. Maybe one to two years. But IMO it will and if you are still there at that time then you will get a good return. It's just a matter of being patient and trying not to get frustrated at its daily volatility. If you don't need to sell then do as Gs is doing and put them to one side and you will get your reward eventually. The pointers to TCGs future are getting better so don't be put off by the short term vultures.I know it's easier said than done but if you don't need the money urgently , I am sure you will get you reward. Just don't give yourself a heart attack by getting so frustrated. Hang in there Harry.

Makes me wonder if the drop is all to do with Monarch being so near to tomorrow's Pre-close trading update? Could there be something negative tomorrow?

Hi bigpro. I agree with you regarding the rant by rbrand as that is just what it is , meaningless and pointless comments. I just don't understand what the hell this person is on about most of the time. But I have to say I find your comparison of rbrands intellect to a snail quite insulting and offensive , TO THE SNAIL THAT IS!!

I could never understand why TC tied up with the co op. What was the point and what did it achieve as the co op only operated in the same areas and locations as TCG anyway? IMO it is now only going to be a loss maker of a deal if the co op decide to go as TCG are going to have to fork out. So just what was the point of it?

Thanks for that.That means the stock value is now more than doubled , even almost tripled for investors since consolidation. Yes it definately makes you think. Wasn't convinced consolidation was an answer for TCGs woes but if Inchcape is a model example , then maybe it is!!

Interesting point from oldtimer! As he says , if the shares were consolidated , would there then be a higher chance of sp percentage loss compared with the sp now? Not sure if it would be as positive a move as it was for TUI!! Any thoughts anybody?

It's a difficult one Harry. Not sure if share consolidation is the answer but your absolutely right , something needs to be done as TCG are languishing in no man's land , where they have been for a long time.

Been looking to book a holiday on the TCG website. Find their site is still not very smooth in operation and often erratic and not very intuitive. I have found this to be the case with their site for a long time and just wish they would address it as I am sure it must discourage some customers Thomson's on the other hand is so much better and responsive. Does anyone else have any problems with TCGs holiday website?

Not sure how much Thomas Cook are exposed to Thailand but two bombs gone off tonight in Hua Hin , a popular Thai tourist resort.
