Greetings to any of the original band of "Stalwarts" still around, languishing with losses on their investment of up to 99%! It would be an ultra optimist to anticipate any significant turnaround next year but as things can't possibly get any worse, they can only get better! So here's to the end of the present threat in Africa early in 2021 and the sight of the SP slowly rising as passengers return. Meanwhile, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy - even prosperous - New Year.
Ever since this Board had some life to it – 1978 I think it was, or so it seems! – I've posted the news that fastjet won the prestigious "Africa's Leading Airline" – again. Now for the fifth consecutive year, here are the comments from an unnamed executive:
"The prestigious World Travel Awards acknowledge excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries."
Fastjet said, "We are ecstatic with our latest win, and we extend our sincere gratitude to our customers, industry regulators, travel partners and staff for their support and encouragement. Having listened to and acted on feedback from our loyal customers, we have over the years, adapted our business model, evolving to our current business model, which whilst still retaining low-cost principles extends inclusive value-based fares and new travel opportunities.
“Our fifth consecutive award, in particular during this very challenging year, reaffirms our motivation to deliver outstanding services whilst introducing new travel norms with a firm commitment to combatting the spread of the virus, increasing traveller confidence, as we continue to promote existing and new business and leisure travel and tourism opportunities in the markets we serve.
“To be voted for the fifth consecutive time as World Travel Award winner is an accolade which many strive for, and is testament to the fact that Fastjet, is consistently recognised and acknowledged by their loyal customers and travel partners.”
It's good to know that our company still commands such respect in the continent in which we continue to operate, especially at such a very difficult time. Here's to fastjet surviving it, unlike so many other businesses, and especially to the end of this terrifying pandemic.
I'm holding out – seeing it out till the end! Or new beginning?
Thanks for the clarification, Fossiebeer. A lapse of memory I'm afraid! Nothing new these days!
fastjet has announced today that "We initiated robust discussions and are actively engaged with key stakeholders as we finalise plans for the recommencement of domestic flights between Harare and Bulawayo and Harare and Victoria Falls, following yesterday’s announcement by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting.
"Whilst the airline positively deliberates on the next steps in announcing dates and a revised domestic network flying programme, they have expressed their gratitude to the Government and respective authorities and agencies for continued efforts in preparing the travel industry for a return to operations.
"The airline said it has since extended its 'flexible booking change policy' until March 2021 and advised that details on resumption of flights would be shared with customers as well as additional incentives aimed at enhancing market confidence, safety and sustainable operations."
While I wouldn't expect to see a dramatic surge in the SP following such an announcement under normal conditions, considering the markets pushed it right down to almost invisibility I would have expected it to rise just a bit from its fraction of a penny value. It can't be down to the time difference which is, after all, only one hour.
I think you're alluding to seals!
Oops. "please" not pease! There used to be an "Edit" button. What happened to that? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other forum.
Yes I agree Breakfree. While there may be no real trolls around, I'm getting awfully tired of all the armchair expert forecasters filling this Board up adamantly announcing that the SP "WILL fly tomorrow" or even worse, "This'll hit 1p tomorrow" not to mention "We'll see an RNS in the morning." Can we just watch as things take their course, pease?
As for the typos, both spelling and grammatical!!! I don't expect everyone to be skilled in either. But so many just don't bother to check and correct what they've typed before posting. It may sound a tad pompous but basically they're just bad manners.
Yes, three months after its inaugural flight from Dar es Salaam – 27 Feb 2013: 35,000 at 2.9p each and 20 more times after that until 9 August 2017 and then just over a million this month when they'd "sunk" to 0.00214p each. I used to be a regular poster in those days until the board became a very unpleasant place to be, thanks to a couple of truly obnoxious trolls.
Hello Jamsaral and welcome to the fastjet board. Good luck with your new investment. May it soon prove to be a profitable one for you. And the rest of us.
Yes I wish I'd waited instead of buying half-a-million two weeks ago today at 0.00214p, catching them "before they began to rise again"! Either way they've helped just a tiny bit to reduce my average a tad after paying such horrendous sums right from the start seven years ago after a well-meaning but long-gone poster seriously recommended them as being Stelios's attempt to repeat easyJet's incomparable success in East Africa! I'm currently over 98% down! But still keeping the faith, though the coronavirus has dented that still further.
Thank you Get_Rich_Quick. Of course I agree with your sentiment.
And PS: Your Ps should be typed as PS! :-) (Google it if you disagree!)
My post at 11:50am included the line " I, too, couldn't resist buying a few more at such a ridiculous price, mainly to reduce my substantial holding just a little bit...". It should've read " I, too, couldn't resist buying a few more at such a ridiculous price, mainly to REDUCE THE AVERAGE SP OF my substantial holding just a little bit.
So pleased to see you still around Ronwin. It's been such a long time, hasn't it. I, too, couldn't resist buying a few more at such a ridiculous price, mainly to reduce my substantial holding just a little bit, though I was too slow to catch them the day before at £0.0006 (if I've got the decimal point correctly placed?)
Anyway, I still feel I've done quite well buying in again at £0.00214 but nowhere near in the same quantities as my holding. You may remember how I kept the faith back in the "dark days of 'Winter'" as I rashly kept buying only to find the SP kept falling further and further back!! However, I am optimistic that the present optimism in the company's future is better-founded and will patiently wait for the SP to hit the oft-hoped-for £1! And pigs might fly!
Funny you should mention that, Pokerchips. Many moons ago now I posted just such a question: where can one obtain/purchase a fastjet model? Do you happen to know?
Fjetcrazy kindly obtained a free photograph of one of our aircraft in-flight, set in a splendid brushed-steel frame too. Still on display in my 'office' above me!
[This post will also serve to assure the cynical JT16 that I AM still around, being one of the first to post here SIX YEARS ago, and that I AM substantially invested in the company still, after he accused me of not having "any money in the company" as well as nothing to say.]
How good it is to see fastjet back in Wolfgang's sights after what seems to be a very long absence. I know it's only trivial stuff still but better than nothing. Roll on the day when he has something BIG to report on! It's been such a l- o -n -g wait.
As posted before, I attended the AGM in London on 27 June, as I have done annually since the company was founded.
According to CAPA Centre For Aviation's latest News Brief (to which I don't have full access since I'm not a member), "fastjet Group reports fleet acquisition highlights for 1H 2019".
I may have had a senior moment at that poorly-attended meeting but I don't recall a fleet acquisition announcement by Nico nor the Chairman, Wally. Does anyone have any more info on this – specifically CAPA members? Good news if it's a fact, though it still has had no effect on the moribund share price.
Fastjet voted winner of the World Travel Awards for the 4th consecutive time.
02 June 2019 –– fastjet this weekend added to its impressive record of awards when it was recognised by World Travel Awards as the Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline for a fourth consecutive year.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 and continues to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the Tourism Industry.....

Fjetcrazy: your good wishes are reciprocated. Your link now works for me; I was concerned at that uniquely odd response I was getting before. Having read it, I'm rather wishing I hadn't now, given its content!
It's beenvery quiet on here of late, hasn't it. Probably reflects the mundanity of the share itself. At least it never quite reached what would've been the demoralising state of one penny.
The AGM comes round again next month – how quickly time flies, even if the company doesn't. Let's hope this year's meeting lasts a bit longer than the 3-4 minutes that last year's did! And actually comes up with some positive announcement/s. Hardly worth making the journey up to London – effectively just for coffee and biscuits!
Can you check that link out please, Fjetcrazy.
I'm getting an enigmatic response saying "Rate limit exceeded - you must wait at least 1798 seconds before we'll service this request." I have never seen such a warning before anywhere.
