The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
Plans announced for a new route between Harare and Lusaka to begin on 13 November, flying four times a week. Meanwhile, demand for the HRE–>VFA and HRE–>JNB flights continues to grow. More positive news. http://newzimbabwe.com/business-38645-Fastjet+introduces+Harare+Lusaka+route/business.aspx
The “On time performance” panel has yet to be updated from its June detail, too. But that’s not unusual to have been left either. As for the adjacent “Cancellations & Delay Info” panel, the “latest” info remains at 11 April. This year, presumably!
Hello Farruggia1967: Good to hear from you again on one of your all-too-rare visits! Nice to know though that you’re one of those who keep an eye daily on the Board’s activity. Apart from some horrendous dental work, I’m fine thank you as I hope you are too. Yes, it does seem odd to reflect that we held millions of these darned things in the distant past. Four years ago exactly when the price was a penny according to my own records, and again in September the following year. Those days are long gone since the 2nd Consolidation of 1 for every 100 in April 2015. Unsurprisingly my holding now, like yours, is in the tens of thousands yet my accumulated investment is six times that of 2013! I hope you’ve done a little better. Don’t leave it quite so long before we hear from you again. ATB. Marksman
This SP has been pretty steady since it leapt 18% to 19.5p at the end of June. I haven’t bought in for just over a year – inspired just a week before by Nico’s arrival at his desk – after far too many top-ups in the Winter-era, swearing publicly that that would be my last time – ever! Recently I have been thinking a lot – as it has languished at its lowest point ever, since the ‘one-for-every-100” Consolidation of April 2015 – that, a year after Nico took over the reins, there seem to be real signs of his team’s plans bearing or about to bear fruit in the next few weeks, as well as much positivity here on this Board, and it won’t be long before we begin to see a steady rise in the share price. So much so that, earlier this week, not wishing to miss that imagined boat, I increased my holding by 33% up to a really nice round number while the price was at its lowest. Only time will tell if my timing was good or not. But it’s really cheering to see that 3.6% rise this afternoon. I know taskmaster, themighty and Fjetcrazy have added to their positions this week or last, so – yet again! – I wish ALL holders good luck and for the long-awaited prosperity after so much patience.
PJMInvest: AND, as I've mentioned 2 or 3 times before, the adjacent "Cancellations and Delays" box, still dated 11 April. Maybe there haven't been any which would be good, but it would still look better with an updated month showing.
fatherelmer: I realised the difference in frequency but surely with the current issue showing a cover date of "June/July", the next one should be "August/September"? "Should" being the operative word, I agree! However, Places has pagination of just 52 pages whereas Travelsmart was 30% larger at 68 pages ever since January 2014. Maybe that accounts for the difference too? We'll see.
Well spotted, PJMInvest. So – 1 August. Shall we see the new issue up today? Land & Marine were always very good with publishing Travelsmart on the first of every month of publication.
Fjetcrazy, PJMInvest.....: – completely O/T! I really don’t wish to belabour the point beyond acknowledging that recent sequence of posts referred to. Thank you both for your kind responses and admirable modesty. Yes, PJMI, it is the collective effort of all of us who post that makes the Board what it is. But, without false modesty, I am just an investor here – what I have occasionally described as a “reckless” one! – and one who has become almost emotionally involved with the company. (Almost?!) But over more than four years, I have learned so much about the industry – and fastjet in particular – from so many others. It is, of course, notoriously invidious to pick specific examples, so to be more general, and while many display the characteristics I described yesterday, I find more pieces to fit the jig-saw when we occasionally read the opinions of, say, a pilot or someone who actually lives in Sub-Saharan Africa. Talking of whom (or which), my involvement with fastjet has made me so much more interested in a (sub-) continent, its people and activities, which had been of very limited, passing interest before, probably not since my schooldays. That will all change when I visit the country for the first time in my life – flying in one of ‘my’ planes, of course! (I own the equivalent of at least one armrest and a pull-down tray in one of our aircraft!)
Carbonix, Fjetcrazy, G-BOAE, PJMInvest, Rufiji: Thanks all five of you for a series of invigorating, informative and on-topic posts just over this weekend. I doubt if I’m the only one to appreciate and benefit from such a display of fastjet intelligence!
G-BOAE: “Anyone remember the Stalwarts?” I even remember you by your original username! And even you joining me at the AGM 2015 when you spotted me chatting with Ed Winter after the meeting had concluded and introducing yourself! So, good to see you posting again though probably still a rare visit? Judging by my number of posts, I must be a fairly well-known Stalwart and occasionally bring up the name for the benefit of others. I have only met one other (at last year’s AGM and regularly keep in touch with him). You may have noticed the great improvement to this place since Bedbug and Beretta (Steve Gurr) were both banned? Like you and many other long-termers, I have lost a considerable amount since I first invested over 4 years ago but, also like you, maintain a stoic faith in the feasibility of an African LCC and especially so since the arrival of Nico and his team, of whom I have high hopes of the company’s steady progress and success.
You’re better placed to put me right, Rufiji, but they only have to make a hash of it in just one area alone (as an airline did once but I can’t remember which?) and maybe fastjet will be in a position to step in. Though it would be nice to see us in a greater position of strength by such a time. How great it would be to be back operating in Zambia again. OK, so pigs might fly!!... Parrots CAN!...
What was that, then?
"Told you so"!!
Very positive, pro-fastjet tweets on those links. Always nice to see the independent support we get now and again.
Can anyone tell me why we’re not members of IATA, as reported in Carbonix’s second link below, and confirmed on IATA’s own website? Is it to do with the time an application takes to be accepted as we wait? Or have we not even applied? And if not, why not? Is membership of IATA not a minimum standard we and our passengers expect us to aspire to and which can be of great benefit to us? Maybe I overestimate its value and importance to us – a mere 2-‘plane ‘outfit’!? And the annual fees of $14,500 on top of the Application Fee of $15,000 may have been a consideration by the present or, more likely, the former BoDs, misguided or otherwise?
Excellent sources, Carbonix. Thanks.
Fjetcrazy: Thanks for providing the actual the link, and to PJMInvest for elaborating on his post of an ‘advice’ on 30 June but that was just for access to Places on the website Blog, so I did get to see it then. Let’s hope they’ve got it all sorted out by the time of the next issue, due presumably on 1 August, so not far away now.
...and what's a "blog area"?!!
Ditto with the Cancellation and Delay information Update panel on the front page, as I've been banging on about for weeks. Latest situation still showing as 11 April. It would be wonderful to think there have been no delays or cancellations over the last 3 months but there have been times when our FB pages suggest otherwise. Like the Places update, it would be so easy and appear far more professional to have that panel simply stating "There are no delays to, nor cancellation of, any of our services today..." but crucially, ensure that that is amended the moment delays etc ARE reported.
Thank you all, oilyguy, B787 and PJMInvest, for your kind birthday wishes.
