A handy little rise today to take it back into the black. Sentiment is all over the place in this market.

As per the norm, both ‘A’ and ‘B’ share have same voting rights, stake-holding level and dividends that you’d come to expect. But for U.K. and global investors in general, excluding U.S. investors, it would make better sense to acquire ‘B’ shares, as ‘A’ shares are tied to the Dutch tax system that sees dividends paid out to non-European Union (E.U.) residents minus a withholding tax of 15%.

On the contrary, London-listed ‘B’ shares have no withholding tax applied to the dividend payout thereby putting the full dividend amount (by shares held) into the holder’s coffers.

However, please note the date. The Dutch may have changed their tax rules since.

American markets going strong today, could be another positive day on the markets tomorrow.

Tiff that is an interesting insight. I guess for shares like BT and other highly traded companies you can make the argument for the price being set by supply and demand.

However, for illiquid shared (or less liquid) they do perform a useful function.

I guess if they were removed then investors would have to amend the adage that not only can investments increase and decrease in price, sometimes you will not be able to buy or sell at all.

Maybe we need to introduce more competition into the MM arena.

I like the negative posts, it's an opportunity to reflect and its always good to have a counter balance.

As an investor its natural to hope for ever increasing returns.

I've had a good day with EVR today, so looking for other oversold opportunities. Already have some here at 195, but this price is very tempting to trade some more.

To my untrained eye the fall in BT over the long term seems to have tapered off a little.

This dip could be similar to last Augusts dip so money making opportunities. For those thinking it will go lower it would carry more weight if they had a % in mind as unless you are suggesting BT will go bust then it will stop falling at some point.

Trust me I have had far more experience at calling it wrong than right. But the drop looked too much to me for the level of impact.

I've got 2 sets of shares here, so may make a decision tomorrow whether to sell one trache but will hold the other for dividends and capital growth.

The issue with selling is I'll still be looking to reinvest somewhere at some point, so no garauntees of getting it right next time.

It's pretty much the reason I have invested here.

Yep built a hospital in 8 days. Or at least a treatment centre of sorts.

But on the other hand they did tell the medics who discovered this to stop spreading untruths against the social good.

Also not so sure the Chinese worry too much about private property rights.

Oh and they did eat the bat's carrying the disease in the first place.

So I would not suggest throwing democracy out the window for a 1 party communist state just yet.

I also suspect that boris speaking today did not help UK companies.

That's the last of my ISA for this year, so hopefully it will do better than the rest.

I'm fascinated to understand the mathematics behind a virus that at the top end has a fatality rate or 2-3% will knock a further 1/3rd off the share price?

I don't think all of the drop last week was about saga. World events also will have impacted the price.

This and many other shares took a hefty hit.

Unless they are going to give them away for free there fall will stop at some point.

I've no insight into the impact of credit cards but clearly the prevailing wind is against gambling companies at the moment.

But will have to wait and see what impacts it has on the bottom line.

The entire market has taken a hit over the last week with the Chinese virus.

Even shares with no direct China impacts. My own portfolio was recovering in early January. But all my stocks took a hefty hit last week. You can only hold tight and ride it out.

2 more weeks till final results so not long for holders to find out if we are moving in the right direction.

The dividend yeild has grown as has the actual dividend.

Paying a dividend beyond the companies ability to fund would be rediculous.

The company is growing and performing well.

Glad this has turned. I personally bought too early, but glad that the drop from 50p was not justified. No horror stories or surprises, so hopefully this should recover the losses of the last week.

The ex dividend date should not really govern when you sell. In most cases the sp will drop by the same amount as the dividend on that date. So you will end up with the same amount of money.

Unless you are expecting news that will increase the sp around ex dividend it does not make a difference.

The natural instinct would say this will boost the share price. But you can't make a return on something you have sold. So once that business has gone it will reduce the assets of the company and an income generation source.

Also saga likes to sell multiple services to its customers, if it just becomes an insurance company then they will close off alot of income streams.

Clearly I want the shares to rise, but I also want to make an overall long term gain and not just a quick buck.
