I am not a great fan of the Guardian but even they know when they are facing incontrovertible facts about the war in Ukraine! Is dim Tim suggesting that their reporters are being hoodwinked or, much worse, deliberately repeating propaganda and lies to blindly support the West and its views on the war in Ukraine? Different views are one thing - deliberate obfuscating of the truth and outright lies are another. Some start from the premise that Putin is a victim and refuse to see any facts that point to the contrary. In other words they have a closed mind. They are not open to what European newspapers are saying and reporting. Does LOGP need to know what BEY intends to do, before they launch legal action under the ECT? It is beginning to look that way to me. If BEY opt for a JR and LOGP starts legal action now, what happens in a year's time if the LU is granted? Where does LOGP stand in those circumstances? The one real advantage for LOGP, if the merger had come about, would have been that more eager 'no win, no fee' firms would have competed and been able to offer more competitive terms because the amount of compensation sought would have been so much bigger. Say 12-15% rather than 20-25% of the sum awarded, if the case is won. This would have benefited both companies of course. Probably large egos prevented or are still preventing the merger. Any opinions?

Beyond a JV now. Would or could LG and large stakeholders in Bey sue on behalf of both Barryroe Partners, in certain circumstances? The clearest way for LOGP is of course to sue under the ECT (as they have mentioned). Maybe that is a certainty now and a silly question to ask although we have heard nothing further from them. Is there any chance the government will want to settle by making an offer? Time is money and 250m now rather than 500m + legal fees four years down the line may concentrate minds.

What are the reasons for thinking LOGP has only a 50% or less chance of getting compensation under International law? Pessimism abounds. It is indeed a sad day when irrational decisions by extreme minorities are allowed to stand in what is considered to be a democratic country. From every point of view Ryan’s virtue-signalling decision is harmful to everyone.
