Also I really DO NOT UNDERSTAND why I have to write a political manifesto any time I comment on something.

I just refuse to do what I'm told by someone like Gate13 who thinks the way to win an argument is petty personal attacks or attempts to invalidate another person simply for having a different take on things. It's the tactics of a bully.

I'm constantly being called a communist, a socialist, a SNP supporter, a Labour supporter, bla bla bla. If people can't infer my political vantage point from my incredibly obvious statements on the issues in threads then that is their problem. If my viewpoint was as opaque is actually claimed, I doubt the hard-right lot in here would take issue with it, but it's obvious they do considering their incessant personal attacks whenever I post.

I'm not going to jump through hoops for a bunch of rather unpleasant hard-right folk. And I have said on here before several times that I don't blindly follow a singular political party because I don't think anyone has it quite right and I think tribal, polarised politics is deeply unhealthy to democracy.

That said, since a few people have been somewhat civil about it, I'll repeat myself again (I have said all this before...) I'm pro Scottish independence, so I support the SNP on that issue obviously, however my political viewpoints more closely assign with the Scottish greens. I think Scottish Labour are absolutely useless, same with Scottish Cons. I think the Tory party are the biggest scammers this nation has ever seen and they only have a modicum of support because of right leaning rags like the Daily Heil, that actively suppress critical reporting on them. I mean for God's sake we have a PM that breaks the law, breaks international law, breaks ministerial code, re-writes ministerial code, unilaterally breaks agreements with the EU, wants to electronically tag migrants, deports migrants to Africa, refuses to engage with trade unions about wage increases, and tries to appoint his wife to a 100k tax-payer funded job. And those are just things from the last bloody month!

It's scandal after scandal after scandal.

I've made my position plenty clear, I think the Tories are responsible for how the country has been ran in the last decade. Not surprising, considering they have been in power and running the country for the last decade.

Every time I ask you to simply explain your position, you turn the argument into something else that has nothing to do with it.

It doesn't even make bloody sense, you say I'm an SNP supporter, then a Labour supporter, then you ask me who I'd vote for? So which is it? Either you seem to know who I vote for with one comment, and use that to dismiss any debate, or you have no clue who I'd vote for and make your comment about me not "stating a position".

All you do is alternate between those two contradictory statements, which are both weirdly focussed on me - when all I'm asking you to do is to honestly debate your position.

I don't need you to tell me who you'd vote for, I don't care. I don't need to call you a Tory voter or a UKIP voter (or probably former BNP supporter) because, again, I don't care. It also has nothing to do with the actual conversation.

And for the record, interest rates SHOULD be higher, it's a scandal they have been so low for so long and that is a large part of the reason we are in the mess we are right now.

They got cheaper houses, at an earlier age, and had easier access to full time jobs than their children ever will. Data also shows that millennials actually save at a younger age than boomers did (source at bottom) which compounds the unaffordability of current housing - and also directly conflicts with the typical argument that millennials don't save. Look Gate, I've tried repeatedly to give answers to direct questions, including a lengthy reply to you on immigration earlier today. I've repeatedly asked you to make any sort of point you want to make and you have done nothing other than respond with insults.

You chime in on any comment I make, like now, even if it has nothing to do with you, with the express aim to antagonize me and then call me a hypocrite or "playing victim" when I have the temerity to defend myself.

The fact people attack movements like BLM and athletes taking the knee really shows that we still have a long way to go. I don't think there is anything wrong with the state recongizing the role it played in it. You'd have to be a fool to not appreciate a lot of western wealth comes from colonialism, not just in the UK of course, and talking about that is important. You have school curriculums in the UK and the US right now that are actively suppressing those conversations. So it's all still relevant.

I think it's very, very easy for progressive voices to get drowned out by a vocal minority of white nationalists that feel talking about history is to devalue their identity. That's a really unhealthy way to approach it in my opinion. You can be extremely proud of where you come from, but recognize that some truly awful things have been done in the name of our flag. No one is going over to Germany and blaming them for what some fascist did 80 years ago, but there is no point in being in denial about it either.

Well I am angry. I am angry because I have a bunch of boomers telling me what my generation does and doesn't want. It's ludicrous.

One needs only look at what an average job could afford you in the 70s, 80s and 90s to see that the housing crisis is very real, but many on this board are in complete denial about it. All the data is there, all the statistics are there, but instead you have people like skier1 spewing completely disingenuous "facts" in order to fit a narrative that is patently absurd.

Then you have the anecdotal crap from people saying X generation simply doesn't "work hard enough" or "save enough" or, worst of all, "want it enough". It completely ignores the economic reasons as to why home-ownership among those under 45 has withered away in the last two decades. "If only they didn't buy Netflix, or eat avocado on toast, or buy clothes" - it's just an insane, childish argument, once again designed to disregard genuine and valid concerns about a generation that works every bit as hard as the one before it, yet reaps none of the rewards. Again, the cold hard DATA is there to support my position, one needs only do a cursory bit of reading.

The average wage in Switzerland per month is nearly £5k. The average cost to rent in Switzerland per month is £1k. That is one fifth of monthly salary on wages.

That is far cheaper proportionally than in the UK and the properties are also bigger on average.

So once again, you know nothing about Switzerland and your "facts" are completely misleading bullsh*t.

No one is criticizing the ability to rent, it's just a problem when renting costs multiple times what a mortgage does. It essentially makes the poor poorer. The countries that successfully have a renting class also have rent-caps, strong tenent rights as well as robust landlord regulation. The UK has none of those things.

This is what the Tories, ie the party of landlords (this is a fact btw, Tories have far more landlords than any other party and far above the UK average) don't like admitting.
