What I actually wrote was a lengthy post about immigration needing a holistic approach, including foreign policies directly targeting countries where migrants largely come from, rather than foreign policies that tend to directly contribute to the problem. I wrote a sensible, realistic post about the inability for an island nation to effectively police our borders, including information that despite insane, brutal government policies, we have more migrants reaching our shore than ever before.
I also argued - correctly - that migrants contribute more to the economy than they take out, and that legal framework to make it easier, not harder, for people to move here was the best approach and that we should encourage people to do so.
I do personally believe people should have freedom of movement, I don't believe there is such a thing as an "illegal immigrant", but I do understand that the world is not ready for that sort of thing yet. Hence why I wrote a lengthy post with the above points about how immigration control should be approached by a responsible, pragmatic government.
Of course I wrote all that, it was ignored, not debated, and I was called and idiot.
As for Brexit, it is fairly well documented that the vast majority of the motivations for people leaving it was rooted in immigration. That is, by definition, xenophobia. Now I may have used hyperbole and said all Brexit voters and xenophobes, but I've also tried to debate the issue at every single opportunity on its merits.
What Gate13 likes to do is focus on two specific things I said, rather than the literally hundreds of other points I've made, because he is completely unable to defend his position on anything. Like defending Boris last night and defending Brexit tomorrow, all he has is personal attacks and "you should this once", rather than actual debate.
I've also asked them to denounce bigotry and fascism at least 10 times now, a relatively trivial ask, yet they are entirely unable to even say the words. They continue to attack me, while defending people like Brixton and TheFarEnd that have made outright r@cist comments on here towards minorities, yet act the victim when I call them out on it.
Sorry to drag this on, but Gate13 is just a tongue-tied bully that has probably lived a privileged, isolated life, and now cannot handle anyone standing up to them - let alone someone left leaning politically.
I've asked repeatedly to debate the facts, but it ALWAYS turns into personal attacks on me, including numerous threads created (and deleted by mods) just to attack me. And then they have the absolute gall to call me a troll. I'm not going to back down from an out of touch, out of date Boomer that is afraid of the world. Sorry, but just can't. They have the right to filter me if they have any issues.
