Since exiting, I have been sorely tempted to retake some here, simply because of that sizeable inside purchase.

But the chart looks terrible, question marks over the leadership still IMO, and expensive on fundamentals, if they are not able to show they have turned the ship around. Or at the very least prove the process is clearly on the way to yielding this result, by the next update.

Willing to risk missing the boat for now, but very much still on my radar. GLA.

Nice little double bottom at 92p, but I think the SP needs to break above and hold the quid level, to negate what I think looks like a possible slightly bearish chart pattern.

As a LTH investor, you need not worry about these daily movements, Wiscos.

But the SP is being kept in a particular range right now, and the early morning price action told me that a pull back was likely.

Which is why I settled for a 4% gain on my aforementioned trading tranche. Every little helps, and I find a combination of strategies really does help my p/f.

At some point, it will break out I think. And that is where the core position will benefit.

CPI data shows we are still well off that magical 2% inflation number that the establishment is so keen on.

After the sustained high single digit inflation we had, you would have thought that a year or so of sub 2% would be the aspiration. Just to take the pressure off the masses and even things out a bit. Lol.

I think we are all guilty of that sometimes. There is always a balance to be struck between keeping back plenty of dry powder and not being so risk-averse that you end up missing out on putting some capital to work.

I am not going to be deploying much additional capital today, due to those CPI prints.

Need to see them and how the markets react. I think slightly hot prints, but I thought PPI would be similar...and it was not, so maybe CPI will surprise the markets pleasantly.

In which case, we will probably get a bump across the wider risk-on equities. For a short time anyway. GLA.

I am sitting on my hands now until we see the CPI prints (here and across the Pond).

352-ish and 330-ish (finger in the air stuff really) is where I am open to adding a few more here.

But more for the potential, rather than on current fundamentals, or trust in the BOD. Which I am currently on the fence about.

We need less government interference, not more. Especially from one that does not have an ounce of commercial knowledge between the lot of them.

We already have a regulatory body that is meant to deal with dodgy directors and outfits, boiler rooms etc.

Short selling itself is not the problem. I have never shorted a stock, or even an index to date, FWIW, but I can see it has a role to play in the markets.

The only real issue I have with LTIPs is when they do not carry a high strike price.

But even then, they should only be granted carefully, IMO, because they dilute the wider shareholder base. And heavily so, in the case of nano cap stocks.

Anyway, I want to make a slight correction to my earlier post. I thought this was a fresh round of freebies, but see now that these ones are from the WF deal.

Yeah, but it probably looks more foolish to prophesize a drop in the SP pre-market...only for it to do the opposite :)

I was not expecting this partial reversal in the SP after the strong AM move...but it has allowed me to take a few more, as I said.

And I will add to the trading pot if we see mid 80's again on nothing company-specific in the days ahead.

What was the salary of your father back then though? And was he able to benefit from MIRAS?

Presumably his university education was free to him, along with a grant?

Not wanting to turn this into an inter-generational debate (we have kind of had that elsewhere on another chat board before) and I think we share a number of similar opinions - but things are harder for younger generations than the last couple. Obviously not going back to the Depression years or earlier.

It was easier for me than it was/is for someone 10-15 years younger. In terms of university costs (not free, but cheaper than now), housing costs. Certainly from setting up my first business to the last one...much more red tape and costs. Worse risk/reward ratios.

Anecdotal, I appreciate, but this is an opinion shared by a few people I know who have followed a similar path to me, albeit different fields of business. But in some cases, very similar or overlapping years.

Ultimately, it is what it is. Great wealth can be built in good times or bad.

And I have no interest in listening to the bleating of young people who simply give up before they have even applied themselves fully to improving their circumstances.

Quite interesting seeing the faces of ordinary people when you show them the running US debt clock. As well as ours, of course.

In the shorter term, it will be interesting to see how many bear traps the outgoing Dem administration leave for Trump. Looks like they have been very busy and not just in the issuing of pardons :)

And depending on whether or not you are going to add to that 20K easily in the next few months or so, maybe even consider keeping at least some of it back as dry powder. Depending on the above, maybe 4K.

Wishingstar: First, well done on having £20K available to invest in the stock market at 25 years old.

If you have not put any money to work in the markets as yet, then I would suggest that you open a fantasy/practice account. Several brokers offer this option. Google search will help you to decide which may suit you best. You can pick stocks and 'invest' with pretend money, then watch how they perform over a period of time.

Not quite the same mental impact as investing actual money (like playing poker for match sticks versus actual cash, lol) but if you are going to choose individual names, then IMO that would be more sensible than chucking your real chips in from the get go. Especially not all in, even as a seasoned investor or trader.

You are young and have plenty of time ahead of you, in all probability.

But you are an adult, and it is your money. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you have a prosperous investing career ahead of you.

Or, if he really does get a grip on public spending (DOGE), then that is likely to bring its own economic pains/rising unemployment/consumer spending declines. Even with accompanying tax cuts. IMO.

Not that I think short term pain should be avoided (it cannot, because all roads now lead to it), but it is something to be mindful of.

And I am sceptical that they will have much luck on that front anyway. It has been tried before. So another wave of high inflation it will therefore likely be.

With the opening of new stores in this environment (globally - I am not just referring to the UK footprint of JD) it has made me ponder some of the challenges of Walgreens across the Pond.

Different sector, to a point, but they have started the painful process of closing a fair chunk of their stores.

Full disclosure: I have a position in that name. I like the CEO and am fairly bullish for the medium term. But time will tell. And not a cross-ramp/pump to buy them.

My point is that it does not seem to be an easy process to undertake. Nor cheap.

I personally would have preferred a more conservative approach by JD on this expansion. And their financials are not as healthy as they were until fairly recently. So less of a financial buffer etc.

But the debt is small and if the next update shows another profit warning, then I think new management will probably follow - and they should not have nearly as big a turn-around task as Tim Wentworth has over at WBA.

Got some key economic data across the Pond later as well (CPI and the more important PPI).

So I am going to wait and see how things settle in the next few days I think.

I like this one, but I am inclined to agree with some of the bearish posts shared today.

If the mid 80's is the low print before another decent rise and I miss the boat, so be it.

IMO I think it is vital that the next update is comfortably within guidance. Preferably at the higher end, after the last two here.

I agree. The markets are extremely nervous right now. And understandably so.

The SP has responded well to the update, given the above, and on fundamentals, this is cheap, IMO.

In a positive sentiment market, we would be up 20% on that RNS, I think.

I am happy to continue to hold and will take a view if/when we see 120p again.

That price, if it hits, would still not be expensive, but we have an economically hapless government and a deteriorating global macro environment on top. So I am taking things one step at a time, even with quality names like this one. GLA.

Cannot rule it out, although they are not as much of a basket case as Mali. Hopefully never will be.

But nevertheless, the jury is still very much out on whether or not they are a serious and trustworthy place to do business.
