Hardboy - depends whether that insolvency litigation company is AIM listed like H&T.

In which case, today's bounce is more down to relief that IHT exemption hasn't been completely removed on AIM shares.

Jumbo7 - if anything, the budget was positive for AIM shares.

Abolition of 40% IHT relief had been predicted, whereas in reality it's "only" been halved.

Initial market reaction to today's budget suggests - as I suspected - that the bark was worse than the bite in terms of Labour's tax rises etc.

Whilst there are definitely further burdens being imposed on businesses - notably minimum wage rises - companies have not been "taxed out of existence".

HelloDave - takeover rumours are as old as the hills with IQE.

The current bombed out share price makes it slightly more realistic but still unlikely in my opinion.

However, if there were to be a takeover I'd put Global Foundries at the top of the list. With Intel (where Jutta came from) a close second.

Let’s stick to Hex here rather than getting bogged down in politics.

No-one knows what the budget holds nor how UK stockmarkets will fare under Labour. So no point in second-guessing.

IHNC - sorry, yes I meant IHT.

It's ISAs that are free from income tax, dividend tax & CGT (at least until 30th Oct, but I suspect beyond then too for existing holdings).

IHNC - I think you're right.

It's very rare for tax changes to be retrospective, as it would make a mockery of people trying to plan for their retirement and not be a burden on the state.

There's a lot of rumours the CGT tax rate will change - and I suspect it may well be aligned with IT from next tax year. There's also rumours Aim shares might lose their CGT-free status, but again I'm not sure they'd do that retrospectively.

You've also got to remember it would be highly complex logisitically for HMRC to have one set of rules for ISAs, SIPPs & Aim shares invested in pre-2025/6 tax year and a totally different set for post- 2024/5 tax years. They can barely answer their helpline as it is.

Frankly, anyone who disagrees is flying in the face of history. You can't argue with Tek's share price. It's this low for a reason.

Zen19 - a chart has as much chance of telling you when a company's about to hit growth as you do of coming out with anything useful.

I wouldn't read TOO much into the recent SP drop just yet.

Markets everywhere are especially volatile right now and any uncertainty is particularly harshly punished.

It wasn't that long ago (March 2024) that IMM languished at 0.85p and everyone then was coming out with exactly the same comments about cash running out & and imminent placing. Yet less than a month later, the SP had tripled.

I'm not saying it'll do that again. And certainly not without some concrete positive news (which has been sadly lacking for months now). But it's easy to forget that this is - and has always been - a volatile & highly unpredictable share.
