Skid35 - agreed. You can have all the scientific research in the world. But if you don't have the right skillset to market your products effectively, you'll still struggle.

To be fair, I think there was a need for initial research to corroborate marketing claims & to give their selling partners some USPs. But not to keep commissioning similar-looking research several years on (unless it addresses a specific need for a particular market).

A lot of Opti's earlier partners seemed pretty clueless & fell way short of their own sales projections.

That does seem to be changing now though with Morepen & Daily Nouri.

As for it being their largest position, TEK held far more of Bell, Lucy & Salt at the outset too. But that’s rapidly been whittled down to fairly insignificant percentages, “thanks” to umpteen fundraises since.

Far from being an incubator, TEK has acted as Bank of Mum & Dad to its previous spinoffs, with little at the end to show for it.

Everyone said exactly the same with Bell, Lucy & Salt. And we've all seen how that turned out.

If you look at past annual reports, you'll find plenty of info on IQE's addressable markets.

Problem is, the company's been run far too long by scientists with little commercial nous or fantasists with neither foot on planet earth.

I sense that may change with Jutta. At least she has a background in finance. That may ensure future deals actually make money, rather than purely operating as the not-for-profit R&D department for other firms.

My sense is IQE may become smaller, but more focused. You never know, it might even make money again one day - even without having to resort to the perennial extraordinary items in its accounts.

In the event of a major US market correction as a result of Trump’s Iran intervention, I suspect almost all shares would be impacted to some extent. Despite it likely making zero difference to the prospects of many companies (Hex included).

But it seems more probable that despite Iran’s rhetoric, they’ll know they couldn’t counter a more aggressive US attack and will eventually reach a temporary diplomatic fudge of sorts. In which case, that significant market correction will probably never arise.

Neither of these watered down outcomes would give the SP a significant, sustained boost.
