been brutal for miners/commodities this week, in particular the metals, but perhaps the lightening quick drop off in metals prices will slow the rate of inflation and should help lowering the peak of inflation, and get industry get back to normal, sooner. Wheat, oil and gas prices will stay high for longer for obvious reasons, inflation could even plateau for a few months till the next hike in gas/electric prices in october.....then hopefully the worst could over.

despite the excellent trading update, SP is held back due to negative sentiment on miners, RIO, AAL, ANTO, CAML all down today. Putting the SP volatility aside, GLEN should pay a decent special divi, further reduce debt and more buybacks. The company will be in a strong position when normal trading conditions return .i.e lower inflation/commodity prices and higher growth....whenever that is!!!

Have buying these now for a few months on any dip sub £12. always difficult to find the bottom......but we keep trying.
reminds me of when GSK sunk to £12 not to long ago, at £14 it seemed cheap and I started buying, and kept chasing it to the bottom....I'll do the same here....out of cash now after another buy this morning.....

Times article on commodity trader Trafigura has posted record profits in the last period, will be the same for Glen in a few months time, shocker of a day on the markets, suspect the markets will go lower again on monday morning.....tempted to reinvest some divis next week.

I understood the recent MF article stating the 8% divi to be a forecast for 2022, so i assumed this would include a special divi based on 2022 profits, only 2 months till next financial statement, then we'll know for sure. I thought the article was a fair take on the current scenario, high commodity prices now for longer, could eventually lead to slow growth, lowering prices and profits in a few years time. Difficult to know whether the asian and US markets will bounce back after a sustained fall, or if higher commodity prices will choke off global growth and push us to a recession.....i remain invested here and with AAL, RIO, banking divis to build a cash pot to invest at a later date should a recession develop.

DTN, agree, but probably a few more years while europe scambles around looking for alternative fuel supplies.

DTN, most companies tend to miss production targets, it is just a case of by how much, the latest excuse is covid absenteeism, which is fair enough, any drop in production should be offset by higher commodity prices, i believe the breakeven cost on coal for glen is $30, now selling at $400

So long as production numbers are maintained, profits will be huge, coal reached a record high the other day....big profits, big divis, reducing debt..currently keep track of sp while watching the tennis in paris...and it's a beautiful day!!!

I'm not tempted with anything at the moment. Should have bought more AAL at £31.70 a few weeks ago when the world was falling in.....see if the current rise continues, until the next collection of negative global reports. A bit more volitility to come i suspect.

Strange day....global indices up, copper up, china reopening and Glen down for most of the day with anto and caml both up 3.5%....i just wonder if the traders are moving money into recently fallen tech stocks to catch the rise from recent lows? Just a thought...as everything seemed good for a jump up today.

With 1.5b USD from the 20/21 profits settling the corruption cases, the same amount should be added to the dividend this year.
2020 divi pot was $4b giving 26cents per share, plus an extra £1.5b (from settling corruption scandals) equating to 10cents. One would expect a minimum increase of 20% on divi from last year from higher profits.
Should the current trading conditions/high commodity prices continue , I would expect a minimum dividend of about 43cent per share (35p), giving a 6.7% yield on todays SP....as a MINIMUM for next year.

In the last financial statement,Glen had ringfenced 1.5b USD to cover the fine/costs.....we need closure on this....share price will recover

RNS out on SFO investigation court case....sp started to rise on this news already.....i remember the petrifac sp rose when their court case was resolved

Divi paid in my ii account, but NOT in halifax or hargreaves lansdown.
Nice rise today, Glen has wobbled with yank sell off but came back...hopefully we will get another rise when the yank market recovers

4th August is the next key date in my diary (H1 financial report), should be anouncement on special divi.....coal price near an all time high....just need china to get the factories open.....plenty to keep driving the sp higher..

Jon, we'll wait and see what tomorrow morning brings. The drop in copper i suspect is with the extended lockdowns in china...it can't go on much longer without damaging their economy...their 0% covid policy, isn't working with the poorly performing sinovac and lower vaccine rate in older citizens (relying on traditional medicine)....
Short term share price volitility is painful to watch, but dividends pay us to be patient...

The tech-heavy US indexes have fallen with the WFH brigade returning to the offices and spending less time on amazon, netflix, facebook etc.
The rather boring london indexes are driven by commodities, oil, gas miners, which are still extremely profitable, and reporting record profits/divis.....i am expecting short term volatility (due to covid lockdown in china), and i am tempted to reduce my holding here and buyback nearer H2 ex divi date (hopefully at a lower price and to collect the special divi). long term, it's a buy and hold.....

Interesting article in the times today on the race for battery metals....with china, winning by a mile it seems. The global push to secure battery metals can only give sustained growth over several years for these metals/minerals. No doubt, there will be a few dips along the way (possibly quite soon with china extending lockdowns and the dow falling), but over the mid to long term, it's only going to go up...

DTN, it is always a concern buying at the top of the market, and i would be happy to collect increased divis for the next few years, but equally should the right opportunity come along at the right price....last year BCN, Bacanora lithium miner was taken over by ganfeng at a low valuation...there are opportunities out there, so long as it adds value to company.

Eviking, i agree, Glen did mention last year in rhe H2 financials they were looking at an aquistion, but stated there was no specific target and debt levels would not breach the upper end of range $16b (i think), a lithium miner would compliment the current portfolio, but any purchase today will come with a premium price.....as the WB quote goes "the price is what you pay, value is what you get"
