VEC have just reported that their revolutionary drug used to treat breathing difficulties such as asthma & can only be dispensed by Carclo's GyroHaylor inhaler, was launched today in Denmark! Approval is pending for the release of the drug in other European countries & is expected soon. This is proof & one of the reasons why Carclo are... & have been recently investing in doubling capacity in their TP facility in the states & are so excited by the potential size of the market.

gocarclo... yes, we won't know till we know! I take your point about CIT sales outside of XSense but again the nature of the (Carclo) beast is to restrict info until official results time. It also seems to me that this year is not only crucial for XSense... It's also a make or break year for some of the other 'disruptive' technologies as well. It all seems to be getting to a pretty crucial stage at roughly the same time. Gyrohaylor is only just getting off the ground, with Danish approval now granted & 7 other countries pending. Results from last stage trials from the medical side are not expected to be completed till June. THAT could also be huge!! It's an important year for Carclo. The positives are they have been doubling production capacity for TP in the USA, expected to be completed soon. Same goes for preparing the old Cambridge site for printed electronics. LED & laser auto front lighting arrays are only just starting to come to fruition this year. Add that to only just starting to receive revenue from XSense commercial sales... It's very early days for the whole shebang! Other than to say what they already have there probably isn't much they CAN report on just yet. The different sp trajectories IMO is not just down to other spaces & markets that Atmel occupy, although that will def be a large part of the differnces... its down to many different reasons... a comparatively huge company with a large free share float v a tiny company with shares pretty tightly held, a whole gamut of institutional investors v a handful. Daily share volumes in the millions on a bad day v a couple of hundred K on a good day. Atmel have a large buy back scheme... Carclo have nothing much available to buy back even if they were so minded! There really isn't much comparison between the two companies from an investors point of view (outside of XSense) & though XSense maybe transformational for Carclo if it really takes off... its only a small part of the overall Atmel business, even realising the full $100m present capacity in Xsense revenue will only put on a relatively small increase in Atmel's sp. IMO, the diversification in SP's is pretty meaningless.

gocarclo... Yep, in many ways I believe your sentiments are correct, particularly when applying to new Tech. The only thing i would add tho... Carclo can't say anything... they are only a supplier of a commodity, its all in Atmel's court to speak on any matters appertaining to sales. The customers (OEM's) are Atmel's, not Carclo's. That is the big downside of giving another company an exclusivity agreement. Giving out ANY info like you have mentioned would be ALSO asscociated with Atmel. There is no way the commercial confidentiality laws would allow Carclo to even open their mouth without Atmel's express permission. When Carclo's results time comes around then they will make any revenue earned by them publicly available as normal.

Hi Hottentot, yes, could be we have seen bottom but I'm also wary of expectations for some good things to come out of the next call... that maybe unrealistic because its still VERY early days yet as far as reported revenue is concerned... it could go the other way & provoke another downward knee jerk effect on the Carclo sp if any news from the call is percieved as still only talking 'potential'... News just in from a sorce close to the workers at the Colorado fab says Atmel have just shipped in a load more new equipment for XSense, which may be good news but impossible to say for sure. Could be they got some supersonic orders & building even more capacity... or the lot went up in a puff of smoke & needs replacing!! It IS only hearsay but its also reported that XSense production lines are so busy the staff were kept working over the holiday period. I stress its all only unconfirmed hearsay & should be treated as such. Any real positive news from the 4Q should promote an equally positive RNS from Carclo but apart from that possibility Carclo don't 'do' quarterlies so their next official 'turn' will be the annual, usually in June, Atmel will have their 1Q probably early May & IMO that is shaping up to be a more imformative official report on how its all going than the one coming up. Still no announcement of that 4Q date, but always historically held 1st week in Feb, Atmel's next presentatation is Feb 12th in San Francisco. The next big world OEM device show is in Barcelona last week in Feb. So, as February is shaping up to be busy month, together with what has already been stated by both companies for between now & the end of March... continuing 'expectations' alone should keep Carclo's sp reasonably stable. Even in the absence of any 'real' news I dont think anyone can go far wrong at 260p ish even if we do get another blip. If it takes off at any stage... it'll take off in a heartbeat, but of course in order to beat the market... it was ever thus! GL.

One thing I think is worth bearing in mind is that the HP Omni 10 is a global release (not a limited edition) by the biggest manufacturer of devices by volume on the planet. HP's name is also pretty synominous with quality of construction whatever the price bracket of the individual device. There is no reason to believe that over its global shelf life the Omni 10 wont acheive between 1 & 2 million sales... even though its not a well known mainstream tablet. However it was only officially launched in early December & although ramp up is now in full swing, that wasn't the case when it first became available, consequently any XSense revenues from Omni 10 that might be reported by Atmel in their 4Q call (cut off date 31/12) are logically not going to be any great shakes at the present time. Added to that is we don't know at what stage Atmel would invoice HP... i.e. on production, or after ELK have done the module assembly work... there could well be a few weeks delay in invoicing which could in fact mean NO revenues will be reported as received by 31/12. Although it shouldn't be forgotten that the Atmel VP has stated that XSense is being produced for a 3.2 inch smartphone & for 6, 7 & 10 inch tablets, relying on revenue reports to cause a large uptick in Carclo's sp at this early stage will IMO prove to be unrealistic. I believe more patience will be required for a while longer... in the absence of any 'uncovering' or official 'win' announcements, its quite possible we may even have to wait untill Carclo's year end revenue report in June before we know for sure that XSense has gained the traction expected of it & truly lifted off.

Hi booboodog,.. IMO its no more then market manipulation. Simple as that. Absolutely nothing else as changed. We need to divorce & ignore what is happening in the share market because it has no relationship to what is happening in the real world. It's unfortunate that the disclosure & commercial confidentiality rules in the USA are little different from the UK but that's how it is so very doubtfull we will get a public announcement out of Atmel for any other PO's they might have won. Omni 10 was only announced via the analysts due to a Openhiemer analysts discovering an unsual mesh in a USA store. Atmel have not yet officially announced the date of their 4Q call yet but its always held 1st week in Feb so not long to go. Obviously the cut off date for any XSense revenue is 31st Dec. but we should also get some more 'generalisation' type verbals on how things have gone in January. Up to two years ago we used to get reports about the amount of Carclo shares held by the institutes, sadly that no longer happens but 2 years ago 85% of shares were held by institutions. There has been no RNS issued about any of them selling & therby reducing their voting rights so that situation probably still exists & may have been increased during 2013. Omni 10 is getting increasingly good reviews on blogs & BB's around the globe & yet there has been no support or marketing exercise from HP. It's even difficult to find on HP's own web site, but thre is no doubting the quality, performance or price & its been generally very well received. It was one of the very few tablets not be given a reduced 'sale' price & no on-line voucher codes over the holiday period... early adopters reckon its a 'steal' at the RRP... from all the reports it looks very much like Carclo/Atmel have got a winning TS solution. We have validation, we have the product & as of the end of December we now have the capacity to fill large PO's.... Carclo say it WILL be in a range pf tier one devices before the end of March, Atmel say they have other progs (read PO's) that they are working on... what we get between now & the end of March will prove the future.

... should also have mentioned that its the high resistivity of ITO in large screens which makes the battery have to work harder & provide more power in its attempts to overcome it... which means drains it quicker. That's another area where XSense wins. Silver as a metal has even less resistance to copper so doesn't have that problem... silver has less even resistance than gold & is one of the best conductors you can get. If you ever have a choice of buying gold plated or silver plated electrical or high end Hi-Fi speaker wire & connections... always choose silver rather than the more expensive gold ones they try to flog you!

gocarclo... yes XSense can reduce the size of the bezels & so give a larger readable screen in the same equivalent device size, although silver can do the same & even the ODM's who 'splurge' ITO onto glass have a gone some way towards bezel reduction. Unfortunately 3M who are a major film maker, can produce an ITO film which will do exactly the same as Carclo's film, i.e. reduce bezel size to virtually zero. One of the main problems with ITO is its electrical resistivity values, (Ohms) the larger the screen the longer the wire & so the higher the impedance/ reistance to the passage of an electrical signal, it still works but high resistance considerably slows down operational reponses. It bacomes progressively worse & over 13/14 diagonal inches ITO devices become very slow. There is nothing ITO can do which will alter Ohm's law! With smartphone size screens ITO is fine. ITO also has virtually unbeatable transparency in small screens, in larger ones it becomes a bit 'glossy' ... the same goes for all the silver solutions, they become hazy. For XSense to to equall ITO transparency in a small screen the line width would have to be about one micron thick, we don't actually know XSense thickness but pre- validation it was sub 5 microns, after that it was just said to be unrecognisable from that with they had... probably 2 to 3 microns & with the black colouring added probably now sub 4 microns in total. So it comes down to price! In the face of the competition... ODM end ITO prices per diagonal inch have halved... although that may not last long because ITO wholesale prices have climed to an all time high recently. At the moment ITO still has the advantage in the phone sizes on transparency... & the price is now almost the same that Atmel have said they can sell XSense for. So thats basicly why Atmel have stressed... larger devices is where XSense provides the differential... I.e. transparency & operational performance... which hopefully gives the the impetus to the OEM's to adopt it as a touch sensor over other solutions.

... Incidentally, I haven't been able to find a date for Atmel's 4Q earnings call, it appears none has been yet announced but historically its around the start of February, so if nothing else, that maybe the first indications we may get on XSense revenues. A word on Omni 10. Early adopters are pretty pleased with it, very fast responses, some prefer it to iPad. Some early problems reported about flickering displays & lack of touch sensitivity in the corners which caused concern appear to have been resolved. The flickering was corrected by a setting in the HD menus & the lack of sensitivity was due the the use of screen protectors, once removed the problem disappeared. One concern remaining is the total lack of support & marketing by HP. They seem to be almost denying it even exists, but given the well publicised HP problems maybe not so surprising, hopefully that will come on steam. It is only expected to be very low volume device anyway... so it should be realised that any revenue for Carclo will only go someway towards recuperating the capex. The upside, of course is that HP are far & away the largest OEM by volume of devices produced on the planet, Hopefully they are fully on board with XSense & it will appear in some of their laptops as well. My thoughts are... I would like to see an early Android device... just to show that Windows isn't the only game in town!

gocarclo... despite all the hype about flexible screens its important to remember that truly flexible, I.e. ones that can be bent more than just a couple of millimetre by an end user are a something for the future, not this year & probably not next year either. Pre-made gently curved & very slightly flexible ones are only now just being made & only in very limited quantities for limited edition phones. There are many complex technical challenges to be overcome before we see a truly flexible world. For the time being & for a considerable time to come, flat is where its at & flexible is a concept. I doubt very much if we'll see XSense in any mobile phone, although Atmel would take any PO that comes their way, larger screen sizes are where their focus is. The reason for that is Xsense provides the main differentials on price & quality from ITO & the 3 main silver TS solutions... nanowire, halide, mesh in the larger (10" & above) sizes. Also larger screens are far more lucrative, the larger the area the more the diagonal inch price rises! IF any of the new devices being displayed at 2014 CES contain XSense, I also doubt very much that we are going to get a public announcement & know about it. It's far more likely (due to commercial confidentiality) that we will have to wait till its 'uncovered'. Until that happens we will IMO remain in XSense 'potential' territory as far as the market & the sp level is concerned. Hopefully we should here something very soon now. The next big yearly showcase event will be held in Barcelona (last week in Feb) we should by then have a far better idea of how well the adoption of XSense is getting on.

Corning are very best buddies with Atmel, have been for a long time, one of Corning's competitors is UniPixel who have tried to usurp Corning's dominance with a plastic cover plate which they called Diamond Glass... It was about to revolutionise the world according to UniPixel. It failed!!! They are still touting it around. Corning only make Glass, not devices... virtually every portable mobile device has Gorrilla Glass, including Omni 10... they are not a competitor for Atmel/Carclo, they work with them on designs, XSense's flexibility potential has been one of the main drivers for the invention of a bendable type of glass, but silver solutions are also flexible. The main obstacle to mobile flexible devices is the other components... for instance the battery.... LG have been working to develop a ribbon type one (similar in looks to a scart lead).

G'morning, it spiked up in the first hour on only 20 odd k of trading so I think the spike is probably due to some new year position closing rather than much to do with UNXL, plus I think some will be taking advantage of their recent manipulations. I think therfore that it could easily subside a bit again in the very short term but I'm expecting the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to kick off more positive sentiments, IMO it won't be long before we at least start regaining the falls of the the last couple of months. It may just trundle around till then!! GL.

UniPixel (UNXL) CEO Reed Killion has resigned to "pursue other interests." Chairman Bernard Marren and director Carl Yankowski will serve as interim co-CEOs while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Killion has agreed to "assist with the transition." (PR) Killion: "The board and I believe a new CEO and president who has a strong history specific to manufacturing and operational excellence will greatly benefit the company." Killion's resignation comes as UniPixel contends with an SEC investigation, and faces heightened investor pressure to ramp production of its InTouch metal mesh sensors.

hottentot... Merry Christmas to you too. Interest & the sp may start to build after the holiday towards the big Vegas CES which Atmel will be presenting at on the 8 & 9 th January. This is one of the main big yearly shows & gives opportunities for many OEM's to show off new ideas, prototype devices & expectations etc. We will undoubtedly hear more good up to date news even if no actual new wins are announced. I fully expect the Carclo sp to start rising after the show as the news of various new order wins are announced & become more 'visible' between then & the end of March. Atmel explained the reason why we haven't seen much in the way of adoption with this answer to a analyst question on their Oct 31st earnigs call. IMO validation not being achieved till late August came to late to be included in this years OEM's new upgraded specification devices & the delays have been entirely down to the validation issues. Remember Atmel were expecting to have validation done by the end of their FIRST quarter. It was VERY delayed! " We did have an issue, as you mentioned, before that we have to lay in the qualification of our facility in Colorado, that actually impacted things generally. Because it slowed down a lot of our sales and marketing activities. We had to put those on hold until the qualification was completed. And so there's been a lot of running after things, chasing after things, to try to bring that -- the business back up and so forth. So there are some programs that were missed just because of that. There are new programs that we are engaged in. But it did affect the timing of things, which we had talked about last time. And I think, to some extent, it probably affected the timing of things a little bit this time as well." An extract from Carclo's half year results (Nov 19th) seems to indicate they have no doubts that XSense HAS now been adopted & WILL be launched across a range of tier one devices before the end of this financial year; "CIT's shipments will support Atmel's previously announced ramp up of XSense™ which will see its adoption in a number of products launched across a range of tier 1 OEMs during the second half of our financial year. This statement from Atmel on Dec 4th in London certainly backs that up! " We do have other OEMs that are not public yet, because their products are not in market.". Atmel also made clear that they have MORE OEM's involved in new design work who they also can't go public with yet; "There are a number of other people who are engaged in that (new designs) are not public yet. So we don’t see a problem in growing the business". Atmel's next present on Jan 8 AND 9th in Vegas.
