Fovio Chip - the killer move

I guess the clue of how far on SEE were with the Chip was in the 1/2 year results where on Page 2 they said ["Continued strong automotive demand for paid leases of PC-DMS (technology evaluation/demonstration systems) including new Tier 1 and OEM customers, as well as customer delivery of first FOVIO OEM and Tier 1 evaluation and development kits based on FOVIO chip technology."]

So before xmas some OEM's were using the FOVIO chip to test out. Clearly one was FORD who signed up in quick time taking both SEE and Autoliv by surprise - I'm sure Autoliv were very happy from their own point of view and also very happy to have chosen SEE as their DMS partner.

General Motors said that it would make its Super Cruise driver-assist system available on all Cadillac models at some point, starting in 2020. After 2020, the automaker will roll Super Cruise out to models from its other brands (Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC).

I haven't got it to hand but I recall that the win included further GM models etc to be delivered after the first model. I would expect that GM will tell whoever the Tier1 is (I expect it is Joyson) which DMS provider to use. The future models I believe was part of the original contract.

Why uneasy?
KSS bought the parts of Takata (excluding airbag for obvious reasons) that were good and profitable. Joyson then took over KSS and renamed it all JSS. I would fully expect that GM will continue to use Joyson for their upcoming models. Dont forget that until the airbag fiasco Takata were one of the top auto suppliers in the world.

This is the tagline given when Joyson took over KSS.....

Clearly I have no confirmation of the fact that GM will continue to use Joyson however we have not been told by SEE of any changes to the future deployment of SEE tech with GM

Yes for those that don't know KSS bought the good bits of Takata and KSS where then acquired by Joyson Electronic in 2016 and renamed Joyson Safety Systems.
Joyson really are happy to take the kudos for the CT6 success.

Good overlap but differs in a few places.

I hadn't seen Shell mentioned before so this is good indication of potential.

Semicast believe that Visteon is integrating SEYE kit into their instrument cluster.
It's a good sign that all Tier1's will go down the route of integration and a further sign that DMS is coming to all vehicles for both the immersive experience and for driver monitoring.

Ken has said in a proactiveinvestors interview in Feb that SEE were being "pulled into more convenience and comfort features around the driver and driver controls such as the human/machine interface."

There are a number of ways and links to suggest Toyota are going to use a, b or c's DMS tech. Nauto formed in 2015 and have had their kit in fleet for the 12 months. No info on who and how many fleets that is. Nauto is very fleet oriented at present. Interesting point from the video was when he says "data is the new oil, the new gold". SEE certainly have a lot of data from the different strands over many years in some cases. Dont forget as well as Toyota, BMW and GM are also investors in Nauto but they have made their choice going forward. A final point is the fovio chip is a game changer. SEE's two recent wins were won on the chip. OEM's need speed of deployment and scalability due to the restricted timescales as production requirements ramp up. Toyota may well be won by someone else. SEE cant win them all but the Tier1's and OEM's know quality when they see it.

Don't think we should underestimate this bit in the RNS...

No I read it as 1 in vision and 1 in dms

Since our Investor Day in late May, we have secured 15 new orders across all of our product areas, leading to a current annual order intake at a similar level as at the end of the quarter. This includes small but strategically important orders with two new customers for Vision, Radar and Driver Monitoring in the rapidly growing market for active safety products in China. This is in addition to our previously announced major business wins during the quarter in vision and driver monitoring.
