AscotMatt Sure, I never claimed it would happen overnight and yes Sirius investment is fairly "safe" in the near future. With regards to "100 years life span" - not so sure. Science proved to us on many occasions that it can literally turn an industry upside down within a decade.

AscotMatt We are touching much broader spectrum than artificial meat here. It is about the exponential growth in which the science progresses today. It is a very bold statement to say that the bun "will" be wheat based in the future. The reality is that you have no idea. Regards

Flavour enhancers, preservatives, sweeteners, stabilizers, emulsifiers, coloring agents....we are almost there anyway, boys :) It's coming - the only question is WHEN. We should still have a few good years to take the profits so no need to panic, please. For now - protein bar for breakfast.

You still would Chesh, because it takes a little while for people to accept and become comfortable with a new product (like with anything). After a while, it will simply become one of your options in a grocery store, after a longer while it will increase its range and before you realize shelves all over the world will be full of it. Lower price, decent taste, not harmful + skillful promotion and with a little bit of time it will be regarded as any other "food".

Stanley67 I understand you point. All I'm saying that technology now is getting to the point where certain things become possible. And from that point there is only one step to a big change. We all know irrational crowd psychology here - in reality people rarely do what's right and best for them. If the price is right, it's not harmful, tastes as good as the real one and is advertised well people will buy it - gradually and step by step. Before we all realise, half of the planet will be eating those "friendly and cost effective" substitutes.... Enough talking, time for a gym (and my powder protein drink) - believe or not times of Rocky Balboa drinking raw eggs are long gone! :)

A) Enough or not enough land has nothing to do with it, Stanley67. B) Efficiency of new farming techniques will look obsolete when production processes of the new generation of lab food are implemented cutting costs to a fraction of a penny and "growing" time to virtually zero. C) Farming is a massive industry worldwide - and so was the blacksmith profession D) People will eat anything as long as it tastes good and the price is right - today they eat cheese that in fact is not a cheese, compound chocolate or "crab" fingers without crab meat in it...I don't see why they wouldn't buy a lab products as long as they are competitive in terms of price and advertised well. Stanley67 I never do and truly hope that i'm wrong. But what if one day they create something so good that our primitive senses won't be able to tell the difference and 3 times cheaper in the same time? Fake leather is nowhere near the quality of the real leather but because of its price and availability took over the mass market. It's been this way since forever.
