TBH my holding here is so small now it's not worth selling ... the company has been on the edge for years now but somehow always seems to find a way to raise new funds. Tell us something new

No but sometimes we forget about the people/shareholders involved. Having some exposure to my HR department I know that over time some of them get insensitive or immune to passing on bad news like redundancy .. some even read from a script. many have been on here months so all I am saying is that it may be quite easy to upset some at the time. Granted Pearls is being too positive imo while others too negative (until more news). The truth is this could end in several ways. Understand now though why you are here thanks

Last point because it's Sunday. Read my post again!! All I said was your valid opinions would have been far more useful in January not at/after the event. Anyone can go on a thread when a company is in trouble or suspended and gloat (you haven't) or say "I told you so". Shareholders are stuffed here so in a way none of us can changed this now. So will keep posting because I knew friends who work there and have a working history there. Which makes a bit of sense instead of posting on shares with zero interest/exposure. Good luck elsewhere it's not meant to be personal but as I said I was "curious"...

Daniel you just made 89 posts. I have been on LSE years so perhaps respect the fact I can see the signs/patterns. You were both posting on Interserve. Yes? Now on Debenhams. I don't follow any other poster around. It's an observation that I noted. Btw it's not laughable because over the years some members have been caught out using multi IDs or setting up new accoints - some even admit it. You are right about one thing - nothing posted here will make any difference so in one way we are all wasting our time.

Before you bite back.. read my post again. I clearly ask "why not"? You both would have been far more useful on here in January not days before these development. Ok I be frank then. I think you are the same poster using different IDs. Or come from the same source. You both got bored over on the IRV thread and decided the next candidate for D4E was Debenhams so you started posting on here. I also think some parties related to this (hedge funds) knew the full facts before the shareholders. So it's not trying to police the board as it doesn't really matter now long anyone has been on here - it's simply calling you out. Btw you both made valid points this week. Oh and the fact you feel the need to defend one another is all the proof that I need.

It was a total failure of the directors not to have a rights issue last year. Or to talk to the landlords. Or to talk to the lenders. Whatever happens they must go. There was never a chance of a decent rights issue once the share price went under 10p and hedge funds were not going to exit. Ok it might not have solved all the issues but it would have allowed time for other measures to have a chance to take effect

Daniel - without offering advice, would you buy the bonds? For me, it's tempting (presuming the restructuring is completed)

I don't think even you thought it would come to a head so soon. I did factor in possible admin. but I always felt the company had some time and it could come to a head Q4. I wrongly thought trading might improve and the cost cutting might bear fruit - remember they cut CapEx sharply.
It's not over yet though. MA is the unique unknown here and presuming suspension doesn't happen tomorrow shareholders can still get out with something if they choose to.

Britney, you are holding? Knock me down with a feather. If you want to suggest a director buy is a negative then I guess if he had sold his holding you would call it a positive. You are taking this too personal eg. I held Debenhams. The Directors are paid a fortune. The company might now go bust. I hate to shock you but it's quite common for Directors to be paid for...failure!!

The worse option is that ownership of the company passes to the creditors and the listing ends. Company continues but shareholders wiped out. So after decades of rising funds and supporting the company - the owners/shareholders can end up with zlitch. That's why the BoD have a duty to at least try to find an option were shareholders maintain a stake. Before anyone asks - it's not shareholders fault if the company did not issue right issues when the share price was higher or were provided RNSs that suggested it wasn't too bad..or a annual report were the company will be a going concern for the next twelve months. By point is that people buying on the going concern statement alone should be very pxxxed off

He probably will still need to buy the shares at then12 month high due to takeover rules. The only way he could get Debenhams "cheap" (ex admin) will be if another party made a takeover offer and later in sold it to SPD. Too much guessing here tbh. First thing is to ensure company future which hopefully shareholders maintaining a tiny part of the revised equity...

Pearls, he cannot buy a single new share until he makes an official bid. The BoD might have decided to move talks with the lenders forward a few weeks because they feel he will not make an offer at 22p. A little longer and the price would have dropped towards 10p... I think it's checkmate as far as MA is concerned unless an unforeseen event happens

MA will also be weighting up the fact that if £200 million funding is secured and his shareholding wiped out he can wave goodnight to buying Debenhams for some time. It will be own by the bondholders and other parties. Depends on how much he wants this company .. paying a super premium to the share price is an option but not that likely imho

I did take your views into account but perhaps I was more worrying about people's agendas on here at the time. I actually thought some posters were connected to Odey and/or MA or I was a bit rude and defensive a few times sorry.
Not sure what you meant by 90% of shareholders are unqualified. You mean just here or investing in general?
Perhaps rules need to be tighten re self investing. Maybe minimun cash assets of £100k or confirming you have done some research first. Just as now you have to see an IFA before transferring a pension.
Smartie2 it's outrageous that you think anyone is trading on Pearls comments or any other poster. If so, they really shouldn't be investing in the first place. Agree though maybe we should give more substance behind our views. Especially when they change...

I did say yesterday that I sold out. Just under 2p to be precise. I think with higher risk shares as long as you set yourself an entry point and an exit point you tend to do "ok". I wouldn't continue to hold now after all the news yesterday but I wouldn't advise current holders what to do either. They know it's clear in the RNS that a number of the options being considered will result in no return for shareholders. Even the other options will result in material dilution. Why did I invest? Well I thought MA would make a pre news bid, a CVA will happen first and that any D4E will strengthen the balance sheet and current shareholders could still maintain a diluted holding. Seems like I was wrong. Fair enough.

Daniel - at the end of the day it's our choice - we are here on LSE to discuss the merits of buying-holding-selling individual investments - share threads. Understand? I don't think there are threads available to discuss indexes - perhaps try general chat.
For whatever reason - you decided to post on this thread which is about ONE company - Debenhams. It's not an index - it's a real company - with a long history - and it's demise will have a significant impact in certain towns - it's not a game.
Millions of us have SIPPS - millions of us try self-investment and pick shares to invest in - that's our choice - deal with it thanks

If for whatever reason you decide to start posting on a new thread - then at least don't be rude - we all have different degrees of knowledge and the stock market requires mere mortals to invest and add liquidity usually via their pension plans - I suspect most who put their 5% pre tax auto enrolment money in every month haven't a clue were it goes or whether they are invested in the right funds - they leave that to others. Also most of us have made the odd bad call - look at the so called expert investment managers who hold here (or Interserve or any of the other 100 plus large company failures over the last then years). Finally how are you doing with the twenty hours of work you need to complete which meant you were not able to post this weekend..........
